Hi everyone, I wanted to know what is a good approval rate for directory submission?
I get an approval rate of about 50-60 % in 2 months. Is that good or not?
If not how can I make it better?

There are simply too many variables to come up with a real number here.

    1. The overall quality of the directories you are submitting to.
    2. Is the directory owner actively adding new submissions?
    3. If marketed as free, with paid 'speedy' inclusion option, do they ignore free listings?
    4. The quality of the submission itself - is it in the right category, is it keyword-stuffed gibberish, does it adhere to the rules of the directory?
    5. Is the site being submitted worth accepting?
    6. How far behind is the directory owner? They simply may have not gotten to your submissions yet.
    7. Is the directory essentially bait to harvest email addresses?
    8. etc, etc, etc.

Thanks for the reply YMC. These are my submission details:

    1. My site is a PR 4 software development company site which is well indexed with various search engines. (hence, I'm not a spammer)
    2. I adhere to the submission rules as much as possible. (unless it isn't mentioned)
    3. I submit only on directories ranging from PR 6-3. (sometimes 2)
    4. I only do free submissions without reciprocal linking. (so they could be ignoring unpaid submissions?)
    5. Category selection is always spot on. (again, best possible)
    6. Their review time ranges from 7 days to 3 months.

Since I got into this profession just a few months ago, any advise will help.

Not all directories are the same so you can't just pick them at random and hope to get good approval rates. There are probably 500-1000 "free" directories out there that do not approve free submissions. Some of them are not active at all.

These free directories track approvals and listings. Selecting directories that are actively approving free submissions will greatly improve your approval rates.

Thaks. It is as full-time job just keeping the directory information updated. We get information from a wide range of sources, both manual and automated.

Your approval rate really depends on the effort you put into selecting a directory and the quality of your site. If your site is something useful in your niche you'll have a very high approval rate in niche directories and a decent approval rate in general directories that have a well edited category for your niche. Bottom line, make a quality site then look for quality directories.

I think if you follow the guidelines for a given directory, there is no reason you should not see a 100% approval rating.
