What is a directory?

    Hi,

    I am wondering what a directory really is? I have heard that submitting your link to these is good, but having your link on a link farm is bad. How can I tell the difference between them? They are both sites with a lot of links?

    A directory uses people to create an index or directory of web sites rather than using a spider. Some of the most common directories are Yahoo, The Open Directory Project. Directories are often divided into categories and subcategories.
