i tried to search the forum, using the phrase "what is a backlink", but it kept saying "The search term you specified (is) is under the minimum word length (3) and therefore will not be found", therefore i decided to try and ask here. my perception of a backlink, is a url, that has been placed on a website, therefore, when that site has been indexed, the link would show up as a backlink. can someone please correct me if i am wrong. cheers les
A back link is a link on another website that points back to your website. Think of a back link like a vote. It is one website voting for your website. Not all votes are equal - some votes count for more influence than others. Back links from new websites, or websites that are involved in "bad neighborhoods" count for less than backlinks from highly respected websites.
Search engines often use the number of backlinks that a website has as one of the factors for determining that website’s search engine ranking. For example, Google’s PageRank algorithm uses backlinks to help determine a site’s rank. Therefore, websites often employ various techniques called search engine optimization to increase the number of backlinks pointing to their website. Remember some backlink may be (no follow) and google doesnt count them but some search eng do..
SEO isn't just about backlinks, it's about other stuff too, like on-page content (hint - make it unquie)
I agree Contentboss. If you have a unique content and the density of the keyword you want around 3% to 7%, is easily the top positions in searches. The backlink is only to confirm their relevance to the keyword is right.
A backlink is a link that is coming from another site back to yours. This is great in terms of SEO. If you have quality backlinks, your rankings will improve in search engines. It helps if you exchange links with sites that have the same theme to your site.
All of the links in everyone's signature in this post are an example of backlinks, so if you want to get started, make sure to soup-up your signature.
thank you everyone, taking on board all that has been said, i have a forum, that google has indexed, at over 20,000 pages, and i have the same footer on them all, i have put some links to some of my other sites in the footer, but they do not show up as backlinks, i was wondering why, as the links i have in my DP sig for example, are showing as backlinks. cheers les just as an after thought, in order for the footer to be recognised, by the serach engines, would i have to use meta tags on the footer.php page as well??.
as a word show "back link" that mean if any site put your link that is called backlink. there are 2 types of backlink 1. dofollow= dofollow link followed by search engines and help u in serp. users can come to your sites by just clicking on that. 2. nofollow= this type backlink never followed by search engines and useless for serp. but users can come to your site by clicking on that. plz correct me if i m wrong.
how do you determine if a link that you place on your own website is a dofollow, or a nofollow link??, and is there a special code, that can make a search engine recognize any link that you place on a site
backlinks are what get a site higher search engine rankings cuz they influence page rank traffic search term placement basically everything!
you identify nofollow´s links if have in tag <a href="" rel="nofollow"> another way is found also rel='external nofollow'
i m also newbie. but i can say that backlink from own sites(internal backlink) help in yahoo serp. but cant say about google serp. hope any seniour will help both us.
Explained very well. I've seen a guy that has like 500 backlinks from DP and he has a first page ranking for a very competitive niche.
