Sorry for a stupid newbie question, but sometimes I feel lack in basic knowledge..

So can anyone explain to me what does it mean exactly?

    thanks, Michael

It means three websites are involved instead of two. Site one links to site two, then site two links to site three, and site three back to site one.

The premise behind it is to avoid direct reciprocal linking, thereby (theoretically) making it more difficult to detect, both by competitors and search engines.

In reality it has very little advantage - most search engines can count to three ;)

    Cheers,

    JL

It's also based on the premise that reciprocal links are somehow "bad", discounted, devalued, or penalized - none of which is true.

Definition of three-way linking: Unnecessary busy work that allows some webmasters to believe they are doing something proactive to promote better SE ranking but that in reality is a pointless exercise.
