What is 301 redirect ? SEO..

    Please explain me What is 301 redirect and how is it helpful in SEO as I need to use this method and know its SEO importance too

    It redirects www and non-www external links to your desired format...

    So PR juice adds up :D

    It is a 'Permanent' redirect as compared to a 302 redirect which is 'Temporary'. 302's are frowned upon by search engines as they are a tool used by spammers. 301's are almost always the best option. (almost)

    How do i use them. Can you show me a live example of its usage.

    Basically i want to remove a page listing from my old site and point it to my redesigned new site page. What do i do. Old site page is very well listed in google top 10. The new page is not ranked at all and i am working on its seo. But I need to remove the old page and do some automatic redirection before actually trying to rank the new page to prevent google from thinking that i am duplicating content from an other site

    301 redirect is used to tell SE that your site has been permanently moved to a new location. It is also used to maintain your current rankings..

    What kind of server is your site on? The answer depends on whether or not you are using IIS or something like Apache.
