I was looking through my web tracking and found two people who were referred by google and the keywords that they used, so I went to google and sure enough there was my website. How in the world is that possible when every piece of software that I have found and every different way I entered my site in a google search still shows it isn't indexed. If the answer to this question should be obvious, I am sorry, this is my first site and I am new to all of this webmaster/seo stuff. Thanks in advance for helping the kindergartener of forum. At least I feel like it.
Perhaps it came from specific data centers. There is flux all the time in Google, so it is possible to show up in some datacenters at certain rankings and not in others.
I actually meant to post this in the Google forum. I am sorry that it got posted here. I don't know how in the world I managed to do that.
Could be that the keywords you're chasing are super competative and you'll have to really work hard to rank for them. but for these funny little phrases you can rank well because nobody is chasing them. A group of us had a silly competition to see who could rank for simple seo. Turned out that even though seo is highly competitive the phrase itself wasn't and we were all able to rank quite quickly for it - but you'll never get traffic for it. Trying to rank for SEO is another matter altogether and I doubt any of us will be in the top 100 anytime soon.
Thanks Sarah for the help, but I am not really worried about my rank at the moment, just getting indexed. It has only been 8 days, but I have been doing everything I am reading in this forum and so far I am only indexed in MSN. I know, I know, be patient. This is my first site and this sandbox deal stinks.
If Google is sending you traffic, however obscure, you're indexed. You maynot be cached, or the cache may not be visible but it will have visited. If you want to make sure it comes in chuck Adsense on for a day or two. I know the bots are meant to be separate but... And give it a google xml sitemap
It wasn't a formal competition, more like a bunch of birds showing off their tail feathers and squawking heaps! Mike tried to change it's focus and that fell flat - zero support.
