    Keyword analysis is extremely important.

It will help you select proper keywords to dense with your articles, titles, meta descriptions.

Also, it helps you not to compete with those keywords that giant companies competing for, usually, go with long tail keywords for beginning.

It is the single most important factor.
At least once a week on this very forum you will see someone complaining "I don't understand it, I'm number one in google and yahoo for my keyword and I get maybe one visitor a day? Doesn't being on the top of serps mean you get loads of traffic", then when they reveal the keyword they've been putting all their efffort into, somoen else will actually look it up in Google Adwords tool and come back with " you do realise that as a search term that gets 55 searches a month...globally....."

Keyword Phrase Research is a process of selecting the most "optimum performance" keyword phrases that can help visitors find your site.

    Keyword Research Process
Keyword Research process involves the following important steps. These steps can be described as:

    1. The Discovering phase should focus on identifying as many keywords as possible that are related to your website and target audience.

    2. The Analysis phase involves adding information about existing competition; PageRank based limitations and potential for ranking.

    3. The Selection process involves objective measurement based shortlisting of keywords keeping the site focus and target audience within the limitations analyzed.

    4. The Deploying phase is about making optimum use of your selected keywords on your website copy, HTML code and tags.

keyword researches are vital... if you choose the wrong keywords, then there is no point in optimizing your website for them, since at the end you will get no traffic.

2 reasons why keyword research is very important in SEO

    1. Profitability
You need to make sure that your keyword can convert. People who search with them must be in buying mode.
Keywords equal intention. Make sure that you understand them.

    2. Competition.
Rank 1 in 100,000 pages and 1 in 1,000,000 pages is totally different. If possible, you should target niche keywords as much as possible.
