What impact does having a sitemap have on pagerank, SERPs, etc?

    Is there any identifiable benefit that a sitemap provides to your site, and if so, how much does it impact the website? Is it a marginal or great benefit?

    Is it better for static sites, or sites that change often? Better for large or small websites? And what happens when you assign a page a "high" importance versus a "low" one?

    A sitemap helps in better indexing of site, that is for sure.
    It is helpful for both static and dynamic sites but it is unlikely that it would help in improving the pagerank.

    Yep thats all it does, you won't rank any higher but a sitemap will make sure google knows about all your webpages.

    Google have told with their own words that google sitemap doesn`t affect googlr pr in anyway..

    It doesn't effects PR but it effects indexed pages which means more traffic.

    On a related note, does anyone get much "crawl data" info from Google Sitemaps? I just get messages to the effect of "data not available yet"...

    I guess sitemaps help you get indexed faster by google. If it's faster, I guess it's worth the submission.
