2 weeks ago Hurricane Ike made landfall in Galveston, Texas. The story people are not hearing is about the smaller communities that received 9+ feet of flood waters. This video shows a community called Bridge City, Texas. Bridge City has a population of about 8,000 - 9,000 people. After receiving up to 9 feet of storm surge flood waters, people are bringing everything they own to the street for garbage pickup. As the flood water got over the streets, sewage came up from the sewers and got into peoples houses. This is more then "just water". This is a mix of mud, sewage, dead animals and debris. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0f2swJ6Ee-w Some of the houses received anywhere from 1 inch of water, to over 9 feet of water. Some houses were almost destroyed by the hurricane winds. This was had nothing wrong with it before the hurricane hit. After the storm, the house was gutted and all personal belongings were gone.
I would have been crestfallen, but from such a point, a person has nowhere to go, but to rise. Everything that goes down, must come up!
It is so easy to say what we would do but you never know until it happens to you. My heart goes out to everyone who has ever lost anything in a situation like this.
I can't even begin to imagine, what it would feel like, my heart goes out to those who have lost their lives due to this natural disaster.
