What if we can prove there's no afterlife?

My guess would be that no one would follow religions then - No virgins, no purgatory. Who'd give a shit about religion then? ;)

You can't prove it.

Who is stopping you? Did anyone try to stop you when you were creating this topic? Go ahead and prove.

You have to actually die to know for sure if there is an afterlife or not. And dead can't prove anything except for the fact that they are dead. But by then it would be too late for you, if there is an afterlife.

Columbus believed there was land across the void and discovered it.

The mind is a similar void when properly transgressed also reaches land on the other side - "the outer world", no longer a self reflection but the reality of the universe where everything is possible, perhaps even an extension beyond the physical presence (body) before it perishes. and why God is important that evil preventing man from the afterlife must be conquered to reach the outerworld and is forever made extinct - the duty of God.

Ok, maybe Religions can actually serve a useful purpose than what present day followers use it for in their pursuit to triumph with evil as is their desire for Armageddon. The triumph of good at least would allow for the possibility.

Wrong. Religion will survive any scientific discovery. That's why they are religions and not knowledge. If they survived the established scientific truth that humans evolved from apes-like ancestors, which contradicts the creation fairy tale - the pillar of all religions, surely it would survive it somebody could "prove" that there is no afterlife.

And put aside for the moment that such a "proof" is not scientific. Science does not deal with fairy tales.

I could however think of something that might be the final kiss of death to all religions:
If we will discover and communicate with other intelligent life forms on other planets, and they will introduce us to other life forms they've met. A day will come when we could skype creatures from many other planets, none of which ever got any kind of bible. In that case, even the most illogical follower of the most illogical religion will have to reconsider his stupid faith.

I both agree and disagree. Religion will most definitely survive any scientific evidence brought to bear in contradiction with any specific teaching. One might say religions are evolving(proof of evolution) in educated cultures. When science crops up in contradiction to a particular teaching, the science is first disputed, then perverted(creationism), and finally the teaching is dismissed as allegorical, and the religion moves on. Several religions predicted Armageddon would come in the 20th century, yet they still have large followings in the 21st century.

Where I think you missed the target in your proposal that alien life could rid our planet of religion. I would offer the alternative idea that, when aliens come to our planet, they may arrive for the sole purpose of converting us to their religion. Perhaps they will be the minions of the great Xenu.

good points really. yeah maybe Aliens have another religion but guess who able to make spaceships and send it to us don't send religious ones.
many people think some of our religions made by aliens as "Erich Anton Paul von Däniken" Claims of alien influence on Earth.

yeah but it isn't an easy task I think to prove it.

The secrets eternal neither you know nor I
And answers to the riddle neither you know nor I
Behind the veil there is much talk about us, why
When the veil falls, neither you remain nor I.

Before time takes you by surprise
Ask for good red wine and get wise
You are not of gold, don’t believe the lies
You are put to dust, once again you’ll rise.

I brought the cup to my lips with greed
Begging for longevity, my temporal need
Cup brought its to mine, its secret did feed
Time never returns, drink, of this take heed.

All my companions, one by one died
With Angel of Death they now reside
In the banquette of life same wine we tried
A few cups back, they fell to the side.

LOL. :)

When Columbus and other explorers first touched ground in the Americas, priests were amongst the first to step off of those ships to begin converting the natives.

There are more than a few notable scientists who are not atheist. Albert Einstein comes to mind. They tend to fall into the agnostic category, though I suspect a few of them may even be religious.

Religion cannot die until people discover the origin of it all. And how you want to prove that is beyond me. The big bang theory, the "nothing" before it. There will be absolutely nothing that can kill religion, because the desire to know why we are here has to be met.

Most of what we see is "nothing". When looking at an atom there is almost no mass. It's molecules held together by energy.

Watched an interesting video series on it:

Not proof of anything, but a different look at how historically speaking beliefs have been formed.
