Hi All, I hope you will be fine. I joined this forum nearly 4 days ago because of my interest in SEO. But I have a problem to discuss with you people as you all are professionals and senior than me. I don't have any basic knowledge of SEO. I know the different terms and techniques of SEO but still lacking many basic things. So please suggest me the resources for that. In other words I need a teacher for myself I am MBA in marketing but interested in SEO. So that is why I joined this forum. I hope you will help me in finding the right way. Thank You
You are lucky to reach here...It takes many days for SEO beginners to find this forum. Anyhow, i guess, you should learn SEO for a month. For me it took 1 month and I screwed few sites before i learn SEO.
How long it will take to learn? The basics are quite straight forward but it is when you start looking depth (as I do) at the likes of navigation heuristics, when it can take more time and a lot more effort. Build a few basic sites yourself, get some cheap hosting and see what you can do for yourself. Google have webmaster guidelines that you should read and digest and avoid at all costs, the urge to use tools that claim to make your job quicker Andy
IMO you should take the time to read a book first. This is the most inexpensive way to get going fast IMO while still getting the most bang for your buck. Pretty much any SEO book you can pickup at a Borders or Barnes and Nobles will be fine. Even Search Engine Optimization for Dummies would be fine. I say read a book because of the following... Books will typically lay out the basics of SEO in a nice orderly progression. They will start with the basics and explain the most common terms that and techniques that you see people here discussing. They help to lay a good foundation of SEO knowledge for you to build upon. Yes, it will be the basics of SEO, fundamentals, stuff all SEOs know... nothing earth shattering or special. But when starting out you need a good foundation. Once you've read a good book or two or three THEN come back and start trolling forums like this one, WebmasterWorld.com, Google's Webmaster Help Forums, etc. You can read blogs from respected leaders in the search marketing industry like those at seomoz.org, seobythesea.com, mattcutts.com/blog, wolf-howl.com, etc. Having read a book or two, you'll have a basic understanding of what people are talking about and will be able to ask intelligent questions and draw your own logical conclusions. There is a LOT of misinformation distributed in these and other forums/blogs by wannabee SEOs who know just enough to be dangerous. Being able to quickly determine who to believe and who doesn't know WTF they are talking about is key to forum/blog trolling. Without a basic knowledge of SEO you're going to likely be following a lot of BAD advice. And forums/blogs don't lay things out in any logical order. You need the progression first so that you get an understanding of the basics. Then you can bounce around from topic to topic forum-style. And of course once you have the basics under your belt, experience is the best teacher. So experiment with your own site. PS: Aaron Walls SEOBook is a great eBook resource for learning SEO but it's much more expensive than a $25 book at Borders.
I don't see why it is hard to find this forum. If your after real tips, this isn't the place as most people are in it for post count and sell things.
You don't need a personal Teacher do learn the basic of SEO. First you read all you can from this site, and then start to practice all that you've been reading... Then you post your problems and you'll get your answers. By they way you're in the right place.
@ dhana_space1 I think I am lucky to find this forum @ dcristo Yea I have started learning the basics and if I got any problem I will ask in the forum @ iNET SEO I am thinking to start some site for me? Is this useful to start a site or a blog??? What you suggest? From SEO point of view @ Canonical Thanks dear for the suggestions. I will try to find out a good book for me. And then I will move to above mentioned forums and blogs. @ pirneanicolaeovidiu Yeah I am checking the forum and extending my knowledge base. This is very useful forum indeed.
From an SEO point of view, I would say a site - but others who like Wordpress might disagree. But if you want to learn, a site will be the best thing so you can get used to raw changes rather then being tied down to all that you can do in Wordpress. If you want to get a few ideas, have a look at my site or keep an eye on my blog, which is linked under my username - and any questions, please feel free to send me a message
well go for free seo guides and read ..... watch videos for seo learners ...... do research on seo tips and tricks apply them on ur own site and check out the difference and keep learning and keep researching
For seo .... i would suggest read some books first. Remember few things optimized content and code is very important for long term seo, quality and quantity equally important in Seo. Same as any other IT profession ,.. in seo also you hve to keep updated ur self.
Thank you very much dear. I will go for a website but the problem is I am not a web developer, then I think I have to rely on Wordpress for my website as well. What you think about that??
Google seo basics is the best resource for seo and participating in forums also helps to improve your seo.
