So if slavery existed in the 21st century , Would we see online sites selling slaves ? Share your opinion . The question is just for fun .
Sadly, slavery still exists in many parts of the world. Women and girls are often exploited as sexual slaves and yes they are sold for money. Also, there are many poor who are exploited as slaves. It is one of the biggest disgraces to humans as a whole that it ever happened, but that it continues today should disgust all of us. Wiki says, "The number of slaves today remains as high as 12 million and up to 27 million people."
We have websites selling escort services etc, cars and all other personal property. Slaves are "personal property" so why not? Slavery does still exist but because it's usually illegal (even in the countries where it is carried out) I imagine any trading that is done is very discreet.
What you are referring to is "wage slavery".In reality it's not real slavery as one does at least have the choice to quit their job.
As people said it still does exist. But if it was openly accepted like you say it would just be weird.
And you have the choice of job, career path etc. Even in the days of slavery the free people still had jobs.
Not in this economy mate, they don't.. If we think philosophically, we all are slaves in a way.. We are forced to do thing we don't really like, for financial sustainability. "Slaves of modern global economics." Or should I say 'puppets' ?
@The Webby Well some of us maybe, but not me.I'm not about to get too specific on a public site like this but....my contract here in Canada expires next month.I have multiple offers.I can go work for my cousin in France.I can stay with this firm and relocate from Toronto to Vancouver.Or I can head off to head office in Los Angeles. With 3 offers I in no way feel trapped or like a slave. And also thanks to my inheritance I could also partially retire.Thinking of buying a cabin in the mountains of British Columbia near the Alberta border......nice choices for a slave huh?
Slavery still exists in places like Mauritania which criminalized it only in 2007(again) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_in_Mauritania
