Perhaps Bogart was being sarcastic. I took it that he was being serious. Given the short nature of his posts it's hard to be certain if he's pulling our legs or presenting a serious thought.

I'll keep that in mind next time I'm pumping iron.

Returning to the world of war, appeasement and the costs of either...

Sure trying to settle problems with diplomacy is a good idea. But the time for talk is over. Terrorists have killed thousands of New Yorkers and are plotting to kill thousands more. Its time to take action against the terrorist nations and give them some "Gulliani time"

Bogart, I do not believe in laying down. I have served, and believe in the necessity, when called for, to come to arms in defense of my family and country.

However, I do not believe in rushing in on a fool's mission, and making the problem worse by abysmal planning and egregious shortsightedness. And this is what has happened, in my opinion.

Northpointaiki, its always good to have a clear head and not do something hastily. We all know what happened to O.J. Simpson over the last few days with his sting operation.

But just realize that New Yorkers are facing a daily threat from terrorism. Its really hard not to think about terrorism in New York when National Guard are deployed everywhere and the city is on some color alert.

New Yorkers, anyone who travels by air, people in Madrid, Istanbul etc.

You're not alone. But attacking "terrorist nations" kills some other country's civilians as ell. Where do we draw the line?

Is the death or serious injury of 1/2 a million Iraqis justified by September 11th? When it hits 1 million Iraqis, will that satisfy the fear of people in NY? Will it appease the folks who lost family and friends in the attacks?

There is doing something, and then there is doing something productive and intelligent.

I understand - I really do. I worked 82nd Floor, Sears Tower, 9/11 and for nearly a year after. But we have to be clear about what we are doing, and any war that makes the problem worse, not better - no matter how apparent our victory in battlefields won - is a bad war, in my opinion.

The problem is this is going to be a long-drawn conflict between the west and islamism....continuing for decades till a solution is in sight.
