    Hello,

My programmer said that he would like to develop a social networking website for me, using open source.. like social engine, or elgg.

I need to know about the following.

    - What if the website gets huge traffic and gets to be more familiar and everything.. isn't it bad to have my code based on an open source project? I mean it's not like that facebook used any of these open source scripts, so how to be unique and in the same time using those open source scripts?

    - Can I sell the website later? Knowing that It's customized website, based on open source codes.. what do you think, can I sell such a project later? or will I have copyrights problems?

    - Who has the copy rights of the code? Me, as website owner, or elgg, or social engine people?

    - Are those open source scripts secure? what about security? aren't they easily hacked since everyone can get them with full code?

    - I hate that I got to buy the license, then social engine people will know my URL and tell others about it, that ' hey that website is using our social engine'.

If there's a way to buy their license honestly, then install it in a domain that they won't ever know about.? please give me any suggestions.

I'm with building from scratch if it's serious business, not just a normal social network.

What do you think of that?

    Please replay me guys.

    Thanks in advance.

    - If you have huge traffic that will bring money together. So you can hire someone to code you a unique one. But unless you have huge traffic its good to go with an open source for starters. Also facebook is something else. Any social network script cant be like facebook.

    - Can you sell the website ? Hell yea. Internet meets craziest people all over the world. I've seen so many stupid buys so many stupid things. Like documents, like yellow sun glasses :) But the point is, open source is not a handicap to sell website. People dont pay for your code, they pay for your hit, for rank, for popularity, for name. Not for code.

    - Copyright is something else. If you have a copyright for real, you keep your name copyright and your content copyright but not codes. Codes belongs to its coder.

    - I dont see any system that is 100% secure.

    - And you'e using Windows or MAC or Linux. Why is that such a big deal ? :) So it this case we all have to program our own operating systems too. Forget about that.

Thats what i thought about all.

    Best regards.
