Well up to you, but if you approve everything you will most likely get sites that are spam, warez, adult, you name it. It's a pain to check every site and approve each. Usually a quick peek is better than no peek. Even if you have a rules for submission a lot of people ignore them or use auto submitters anyway and don't read the rules.

It takes alot of work/time to run a directory properly. If you can't put forth the effort to review sites, then you shouldn't have ever started the directory. And did you really ask if PR should factor in what sites you approve/reject? Next time, research a bit before jumping into a new venture.

I asked him to reconsider his decision before he approves every single site in his directory on his other thread and he just started a new thread on the same issue (...)

You would be better off rejecting them all if you don’t intend to review them.

    Thanks Brian

First thing before approving the link is that ; you must visit that site and then approve it by reviewing.

Savvy web masters with good quality sites will not want to submit to a directory that accepts anything and everything as it will put their site in a 'bad link neighborhood'. Searchers will not want to use a site that is filled with crappy sites, cos it will be difficult to find anything of use to them. The search engines will not respect the site, and will know it is filled with crappy sites. The result is that you have a directory that no one uses, offers no real link juice to sites on it, no one will pay anything to be entered, and buried deep in the low rankings of Google.

It won't generate any money for you either, since no one will pay you to be on it, and no one will visit to give you ad or affiliate revenue. So it will be of no real use to anyone. Think about it, if you could just set up a directory and automatically accept submissions and make a whole pile of money, then you could set 100 of these up, no problem. And everyone would do the same. The reality is that directories that accept anything make no money, and don't even cover their hosting costs, which is why they don't usually last more than a year or two.

The directories that make money are not the ones that accept any sites. The more selective directories are the most successful. Take a look at Best Of The Web for example. They are pretty good at selecting only quality sites, and I bet they make FAR more than your little back street link hawkers that have little to offer. People will pay them $300 for a link, because they know they will get value for it over the long term. Google will know that BOTW only accept quality sites, and will therefore view your site included as one of the quality sites. And people will actually use a directory that has good sites for them to find on it.

You would forever stay at the bottom tier of the directory market... a spam-filled link farm with zero credibility. Building a directory is easy IF you do it entirely wrong, but also useless and a waste of whatever effort you spent doing it.

If you approve every submission on your website, it is not a directory, it's a link farm.

This is like making a post saying "If I send hundreds of thousands of unwanted emails, what am I?"

    Hmmm...
