They won't beat PayPal. PayPal has a lot of competition but they take the cake.

But there is no competitor like Google right now. Only future will show but there are SOOO many people looking for a good alternative to PayPal, mostly sellers of course because of PayPals non existing seller protection.

It's not Google beating them out. They're buying companies that's beating other companies.
They started Google Checkout from scratch, no competition for PayPal, not even close.

Paypal fees are quite a bit.
0.55 + almost 2.5% something like that, on top of that theres like currency exchange of 2.9%.

Considering when i sell on ebay most of my items are about 10 bucks after shipping. Paypal takes almost a buck away, Ebay takes almost a buck away. It all adds up. I'm selling USD but live in canada so i got to go through the 2.9% too.

I guess if you are selling items that are like $100 its not that big of a deal but when you selling like me in high quanilty but low price, its quite a fee.

So in the end of course it´s Google: they bought another company but the other company works still with it´s old name but it´s owned by Google.

Of course it is not yet close to PayPal as Google checkout is only available to US and UK customers and PayPal "worldwide". But anytime Google checkout will be available "worldwide" too. And then PayPal definitely will have REAL competition.

So then it's not Google. Google just puts their name on it.

its the way of businesss. Have enough money buy another company, place your business on it. or you could keep it the same name all depends on how the company is run.

The reason google checkout will never catch on is twofold:

    1) buyers w/o a google account probably won't create a google account just to check out. TOO MUCH HASSLE!

    2) most buyers don't want their cc numbers stored anywhere. Just look at all of the cc data that gets hacked almost daily.

G checkout is doomed to a small time two bit spot as long as they have these two requirements.

It's the reason I'm not using them for my checkout routine.

But you could say the same about Paypal -
1)it's only recently that you haven't had to create an account to use Paypal

    2) People do that with Paypal.

    - as things stand the huge advantage Paypal has over Googlecheckout is it's tie-in with Ebay, it's very difficult to use Ebay without Paypal. Google need to find something similar - not an auction site, just something that people want to use that they needto have Googlecheckout for.
