I hear that having too many links too quickly will affect SERP.. my question is.. what if a competitor purposely take spam backlinks to my domain.. Will i get penalized ? I know that there is a tool to disavov links.. But how effective is that tool if someone keeps spamming my domain with irrelevant comments and spam links etc ? Please advice. Thanks
Take a look at the article mentioned below. It will help to shed some light on your questions. https://moz.com/blog/what-if-my-competitors-point-spammy-links-to-my-site
hey!!! thanks for sharing mate.. I think as long as the content of the site is legit and there are credible links and endorsements etc there's nothing to worry about. If such things are possible then im pretty sure many would stop using Google and eventually look for an alternate search engine with a proper algorithm.
The above mentioned article from moz covered all my concerns. In short.. Links alone can't do much damage if the inpage part is clean.
If you cannot remove those questionable backlinks, and you are 100% certain that no one authorized to work on your site has placed them, you can reply to the Google message with full details of your discovery.
I've also been worried about this. Glad to read that it's not so much to worry about as long as the rest of the links and content on your website is clean! Thanks
It will take time to disavow those spam links so expect that it will take long and while in process replace those bad links with quality links from related niche.
The engineers at Google and Bing aren't stupid. They know the tricks that people play and will have allowed for them.
That's pretty pointless imo. Do you think big players like wikipedia or amazon remove all those shitty backlinks they get? From my experience, they don't really do much damage, at least they diversify your backlink profile.
Exactly... I dont think wikipedia, facebook or microsoft will even bother logging in to their webmaster tools account ;-)
Wikipedia is not a 'big player'. They don't have a Webmaster account. The entire project is run by volunteers, including me.
Yeah Wiki is just owned by WikiMedia foundation but run by a community of Wikipedians. source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:FAQ/Overview#Who_owns_Wikipedia.3F
There is a possibility of harming your from negative SEO. But if your other links are genuine, you will be ok. Also you can use disvow links tool to remove bad links from your profile.
Sending mass spam links will not get you penalized. Don't worry 95% of people don't know how to pull off negative SEO. Real negative SEO is rarely practiced outside of ultra competitive/profitable niches anyway. It takes time/resources/money which is why it's rarely used unless there's a considerable amount of money involved. It's not accomplished with a click of the mouse on a spammy $5 Fiverr gig.
