Can you imagine a world where SEO is completely automated and human intervention is no longer needed? What are the potential benefits and drawbacks?
The problem is defining the algorithm. For long time SEOs like myself, we actually got to experience Google when SEO changes were implemented as fast as 24 - 48 hours. So we could really learn the algorithm (as it was at the time). At some point, Googlers realized they were giving away the secrets to their algorithm. Now, they give you a little credit for changes in 5 - 6 days, but according to Mueller, some changes won't be implemented for Months. I once noticed a change in ranking, a YEAR after making the necessary SEO changes. Pretty difficult to know the algorithm with certainty today.
SEO cant be completely automated in 10-20 years because it is not only On Page Optimization but also off page optimization. It it happen then everyone has to pay the company who provides AI services. AI will work according to the instructions. If that happen definitely lot of jobs will be affected.
SEO never be completely automated because there are various things that you need to do manually. If it will be anyhow then it will be a big drawback and will be considered as spam.
It is not possible to completely automate every aspect of SEO using AI right now. While AI can help with certain tasks such as keyword research, content generation, and analyzing data, SEO still requires a combination of human expertise and decision-making. Factors like user experience, user intent, website structure, backlinks, and social signals are complex and nuanced, often requiring human intervention for effective optimization.
We are not very far from this being a reality for the most part. I've created and trained an AI writer (in advanced seo and proper writing/sentence structuring). 99% of ranking today is on-page(vs off-page), especially through content itself. SEO has changed in the last 3 months, and has become more advanced. The days of basics like Title tag, h1/h2/h3, meta description, keywords, img alt text, page speed, core web vitals, etc being an advantage, are over. Everyone knows about them/uses them and are the very basics to a website, nothing that's going to skyrocket your site to the top of the SERPs. Chasing random keywords/backlinks aren't going to help either. I will create a detailed thread about things to focus on going into 2024 to really help in ranking a site.
I think humans would try to find a way to outplay the AI. Isn't that part of the fun of doing SEO, the gamesmanship of it all and winning?
In a fully automated SEO world, human intervention becomes obsolete. Potential benefits include increased efficiency and reduced human error, while drawbacks may involve challenges in understanding nuanced content, potential ethical concerns, and the risk of algorithmic biases impacting search results.
