What I did right to increase my traffic Read the threads here and other SEO forums Created some sites using standard CMS code Modded for SEO Researched Keywords Modded title to be different on every page Used RSS feeds to popular content Waited for Googles Sand pit to expire Removed RSS content and went for user content Created a widget to generate back links Created a toolbar to generate back links Waited..... Made minor mods to Keywords Title Description On Page SEO Off Page SEO Waited..... Researched web logs Waited..... Took a year but now the sites running over 300-500 hits a day and growing quickly. Added some spam mods Checked the logs and removed troublesome countries and IP's Waited...... Added some mods to promote free promotion techniques to then promote my other sites.... Waited and Watched..... Forgot about Google PR .....(didnt loose sleep) Waited..... Researched and waited to maximize keywords..... Removed rel="dofollow" as it was harming results...... Waited.... Increase in traffic is huge and really....really growing..... Checked the content and banned some spammers adding massive keywords.... Made sure content was King.... Added more spam mods and spam lists..... Waited.... Massive gain in traffic again....tripled to 15000+ hits a day.... Natural backlinks thru the toolbar and widget......this was the increase in traffic..... Added link to major social networks..... Added some hub pages on Squidoo, Myspace, Bebo....etc Promoted content on Stumble and yep waited..... Traffic just keeps on coming.... Moved host to new unlimted plan..... Dreams can come true so visit Social Networking Comments welcome as this is the forum where i learned to get a great SEOed site.
Perfect. That's what every decent webmaster should do - understand SEO and the 'Net, work on building genuinely good content that people will link to and support that with homegrown links. Patience, timing, understanding and being active/proactive are all key. If any of that sounds too much for some people then they should consider a different profession
Funny as I didnt believe SEO and content is but king at first but now i do. The more I read the web stats the and the more I slightly change keywords, desc, title, content the more traffic. Really basic stuff but the trick is to wait and watch. I think we get sucker into changing and then expecting a change to occur, this is not how it happens. Wait and watch, wait and watch........ See what users think by using clickheat as a example see what users think but reading stats....make educated guess's based on this. Clickheat showed me how important search was.... it turned out to be the most used and clicked on portion of the site. I changed the mysql query to more suit a better returned result..... hence more hits due to better user experience.....strange but true..... Widgets increased the back links, increased the traffic and hence search becomes more important.... Look at the stats and see how many pages a typical user browses....pick on the user with 20-30 % more pages and see what they were after.... Change the site to reflect this but keep in my this is one user.... Truly this works as my site is the proof....
Great inspiration guys great post. Most webmaster's can learn from this post. Most hurry to get the ball rolling, by most hurrying the ball is going downhill instead of uphill and can't figure out why.
Awesome man. So it's: tweak, wait, watch, interpret results, tweak again (educated guess). Thanks for sharing this. It's not often you find a sensible, non-hype post and information like this in even a 12 month space of time. Very rare find indeed.
great thread dude nice one..... +1 for you. I also do not worry about page rank as most of the other guys do.
SEO is a slow process. When it's done, you would not be happier. So, it's worth waiting. Great post. Thanks.
Some other SEO stuff to think about On page and off page SEO. Made a new change and again waited to see the impact...point dont make to many changes in one hit because you will not be able to see if each one is a good or bad change.... So heres some more tips.... On page SEO Changed the keywords, title and description to see a big big difference in stats. Now I have reflected the above change in the logo image rather than a standard CMS image name. Took a while to find the code in the CMS but added some dynamic variables to the logo. See the code below I have simply changed the name of the image to be my keywords.... rather than the second example Example 1 the SEO On Page Change <img src="images/linksprocket-Sports-Entertainment-Technology-Region-Travel-Social-News_image.jpg" /> Example 2 the non SEO CMS standard image name <img src="images/logo.jpg" /> Now its missing some even more basic On Page SEO tags like alt and title Example 3 On Page SEO Alt and Title <img src="images/linksprocket-Sports-Entertainment-Technology-Region-Travel-Social-News_image.jpg" alt="Social Bookmarking" title="Add your bookmark"/> Alt tags are a good way to get some more keywords on a page. Title is good for the user experience but allowing most of the popular browsers a privative tool tip...Remember most SE's dont read java script so use externally called .js and if you use tool tips go for the title tag. The trick here is to not over pack keywords.... Make sure your keywords, description and title are also reflected in image names but do not occur more than 3-4 times. I made these minor changes and again waited and watched....2-3 weeks to see the web stats reflecting user searches for my tags even on images.... This is a very simple On Page SEO trick that works.... Again dont expect the change to work over night.... Make the change watch and wait....if your stats reflect the change stay with it i.e you get more keyword searches hitting your site http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=e...Social+News&btnG=Google+Search&meta=&aq=f&oq= if the change show less web stats then again make another change but do all of this slowly....
itcoll At this stage havent focused on income. With out traffic you will no have income. That will come later. Focus on traffic , On and Off page SEO. Made another change after some research. Banning some troublesome users posting bad sites like warez, porn etc. These can hurt the site if Google or other SE think they are affiliated or in a partnership with the site. This more is just common sense. You do not what to be linking to bad neighbors. Keyword change and image file name change is really working well. Dramatic increase in traffic via the keywords used in the image. Will post bad when we make additional changes as the site is now humming with almost one submitted story per minute. Next step is to start looking at my competition and see why they rank better and how to move past them on the SE results. Another interesting point that i have learned after running web sites for 5+ years (totally green at the start) is to not just focus on SEO and content. Whats the point of havent a website that has massive hits / visitors if it runs slow? At the start I was struggling to learn mySQL and PHP. Now its a breeze (well better ) To keep the DB optimized i created a PHP script to connect and then run optimize on all tables once per day. The more hits the more you need to optimize. Second script to automatically publish stories after x days. This covers me when i havent got the time to check. Third script to search from a txt file all spam words i dont want. Script finds a word say porn or warez it will then connect to the DB remove the user and associated user and post information. Modded the script to remove all comments to futher reduce the spam. Found a killer PHP script to monitor the IPs hitting the site. If any BAD BOt hits the site they are passed via the .htaccess into a loop than simply slows the BOT and returns no real results. The BOt doesnt seem to like this and hence doesnt come back. I do this to ensure the BOT dont take my bandwidth. If a BAD BOT executes a search query then another this will slow your site down so if the BOT is of no use why allow it? If it doesnt read the robots txt file then place it into a loop. This script then writes the domain or IP to the txt file and bans its with the deny directive. This also brings me to the next critical change and point. Scout Disallow: / The delay ensures that Google or other SE dont take to much bandwidth. Google allows you to change the crawl speed within the UI of webmaster tools but after x days defaults back. I see Google, Yahoo doing massive 17,000= page crawls continuously. Since I am getting massive backlinks making massive traffic I want to slow SE down. Not discourage them but control the rate they crawl the site. Monitoring webstats is important but no one seems to chat about huge traffic and MySQL queries? Controlling BOTs IP and Subnets to your site allows the Web Server / DB to serve pages fast. Once per week we also truncate some Tables example logs, errors etc to ensure the DB is keep as small as possible. You may find like us that you need to now mod the PHP / MySQL query to become more efficient and create a index. check the actual MySQL query code to see that it is the most efficent example" Similar way (not the same!) by updating strict "=" with "LEFT JOIN tbl ON" it's possible to speed up loading speed In my case I reduced the default code MySQL query time from 4s to 1s on a search. Again this proves that its not just about SEO but back end performance as well.
I just love your loooooooooooooooooooooong, boring and pointless posts. A lot of useless words to describe a website growth in a few paragraphs. And most of all, not a really growth. That website could get faster, better and much solid results if instead of "waited......" you would post a press release or article. So far so good. Keep going
