Shared Hosting companies vary a lot! It varies by what you want and need and for how much. Or lack of or don’t need or want. Such as proper support, servers being up and running without daily monitoring and etc. So far I can say avoid: Bizland.com Hostgator.com – reseller theplanet.com Lunarpages.com Topchoice.com DIALTONEINTERNET.NET out of business These sites have a lot of customer complaints. I listed a few others before; these are from friends, clients, and personal experience. Really theplanet.com gets their ip’s and net blocks banned a lot due to spammers – so rethink that one. If you want reliable dedicated servers go to: hostcentric.com.
after messing around for years with hosts we decided to get dedicated machines. we have been using www.sprintserve.net for to place and manage the hardware. I Know they also have a great shared environment. We also offer hosting to fellow SEO's, but unlike most I wont plus the site in the thread...
http://www.Uh-hosting.co.uk. They are a good UK host with cheap prices. My only comment is that if there is a problem (A spammer hacked me) they normally refuse to put your site up for a while.
You know, godaddy really does suck. I tried em just to see how they are. For the economy, they only let you use ftp, and for most of the day (for me atlease) you can't even enter the freakin ftp account! I used both client and IE to enter, when it works it works, when doesn't it, it doesn't, and it hardly ever works lmao. I used WS ftp. From what it appears, it might be mostly my fault though, just today, I relized it is VERY hard to enter a GD ftp account, when you point it from a yahoo! domain name (or others) to godaddy hosting- (so the ftp could be accessed and useful). Mainly because yahoo has its own ftp, and so you have to find a way to disable the yahoo ftp which I'm not even subscribed to, so all client softwares and the IE will stop referring to ftp.domainname.com as a yahoo ftp, and finally consider it to be a godaddy ftp. Though, this is besides the fact that I can't even see the web pages I already uploaded when I had the chance. I can't even see the pages. Here is the site: spysoftware1.com. It's suppose to show up with an error page or something. Though link: http://spysoftware.com/software.html is suppose to show up, and it doesn't. So I'm accusing GD of having very bad uptime. Its one of the worse services I've ever had, and I've had some bad ones before. I should of made sure they stated 99.99 percent uptime like dot5hosting.com. Instead I now realize it states nothing on uptime. Wish I could get my money back but they give you that dam bs about no refunds. I still want my freakin money back! They suck! Its only fair lmao
No to mention, their Customer service might respond fast, but with useless information and uneducated answers.
well I got mine from zeeblo.com & infodialhosting.com .. so far 98% uptime. and no other major problem
Well I stand by my opinion about their CS, but the rest I must retract, since I now figured out on my own what was wrong with my service. I'm still somewhat new to the paid hosting thing I guess. Part my fault, part godaddys fault and the rest is yahoos. No one ever tells you how to properly point your domain name to a host, atlease not in its complete detail. I guess I wont either, lol, maybe I'll make a book on it. lmao neh, actually if you really need help, try your cs, and if that doesn't work, maybe I could answer, keep in mind I'm new to most of the paid hosting stuff. It's like this> < many times for me. lmao then I figure it out, and its like this>
We use the planet but it's a dedicated server. Their customer support is excellent, and their servers are just as good! May be a little pricey but if you are putting up a lot of database driven sites the servers can handle it much better than a lot of these shared hosting services. We used Bravenet for shared services once. Not to bad, affordable but you could not run a lot of db's of them.
Is 99.9% uptime normal? or Is that bad? I can't recall if I've ever seen a server promising 99.99% rather than 99.9%, though I still wonder if thats good uptime. Right now my domain isn't comin up when I type it in. spysoftware1.com . It works all day, but now that its 12 am goin on 1, I'm guessing they figure no ones gonna search this late at night for stuff. Maybe their right, then again, I am trying to market to the as many countries as I can. Though now its the least of my matters, I'm workin on building up backlinks, already have atlease 20 to respond to today. Can't wait til G picks it up along with other SEs.
I have been using lunarpages for past one year and it dint create problem for me. And yes the uptime is also nice. Currently they are offering free domain names for the package.
i use micfo.com, the first 6 months have been great with no problems whatsoever. there have only been slight problems in the last couple of weeks with the server going down for a couple of hours during the week. hopefully that's behind it now and ething's solved. all in all, think it's a pretty good host with fast customer support.
I have several dedicated servers from ThePlanet along with several reseller accounts from VortechHosting and Dathorn. Too lazy to transfer the domains over to the dedicated server. TP, VortechHosting and Dathorn are all pretty good!
Ditto on that, pair has been great, and very reliable. I've also got a dedicated windows box from 1and1 - very good price there.
