Anything. What have you learned about people and their beliefs from this section?

What have you learned that you were previously unaware of?

It would be pointless to be debating in this forum all the time, if you weren't learning something.

What have I learned? hmmm, that most of the people in this section are happy in their ignorance and working towards an even more ignorant future.

Besides, this section has become a standard on all the forums you have out there, there is a politics and religion section, with exactly similar posts and exact same answers.

I learned that people do anything to prove their opinions, they write about something even they know nothing about it, and act merciless to the people who share opposite view. This is what i learned from the forum.

What i learned from the people who write here is, i should always respect people even if i don't share the same opinions, because i've seen that people can be too cruel while they are trying to prove their rights.

    shortly what i learned here,

    Being respectful,
    Being openminded,
Not to write about anything that i don't know
Not to bite hand that feeds me.

I have learned that there is a lot more angry people about than I previously thought. It's amazing to see how many discussions started out peaceful and turn out violent.

I found myself getting a little angry at times because of the personal and sometimes downright disgusting attacks against me and against others and most of the time with no foundation. It was pure hatred at times (not me, from others).

I've found you usually get out as much as you put in...

    Yeah, like face-to-face...
Preferably in front of a crowd :)

That gets me into trouble!

I've learned that the old saying is true. Lie long enough and you'll believe the lie ;)

Some here are perfect examples of that.

I agree about some of the posters here... Also, a lot of the tactics (sidestepping, personal attacks, slippery slope) would be laughed at in any serious discussion...

I'm a lot better at spur-of-the-moment debates... Under more pressure with a crowd I can out-articulate most people, and usually catch people contradicting themselves or stating inaccuracies within minutes...

Being articulate and all that jazz is handy, but it's like the frosting on the cake.

You've got to be able to slash tendons with pointed and direct questions clarifying failed positions, and then bludgeon with the cudgel of accuracy and facts.

Of course, that's assuming you just want to shame someone, which isn't much fun and doesn't contribute much.

The real challenge, is to identify people who are interested in dialog and engage them with your views, absorb and consider their views, while furthering the discussion.

I've long maintained, and I believe this to be true. I will abandon a position when I know it is wrong. I am much more interested in being enlightened, than being a bully about the pride associated with being "right". If someone can give me a reason to re-think my position, and challenge my stances on merit, then that makes me smarter. And being smarter is what it is all about.

It's better to be reduced to a humble student than a self-righteous blow hard.

I agree 100%... Sometimes I can be stubborn and refuse to see the other point of view, but when I think it through, I usually prefer logic...

I actually don't mind being proven wrong, I however hate those who 'twist' in order to try to prove something.

Being proven wrong and being able to admit to it is a good thing, everyone needs to learn, everyone needs to be put in place once in awhile ;)
