Over time, either old or new...is there something that just didnt work out for your directory?

if so have you improved to make it a success?

Was it a bad placement of something?
was it a feature that just never caught on?
was it charging and nobody paid?
was it a bad domain choice?
you got so much traffic your host couldnt handle it?
    you wernt targeted enough?
    poor SEO?
    here are some examples.

    mine:
I found out alotof people dont like captcha so mine is disabled. (untill it gets abused) this can be a pain sometimes i understand. but sometimes it is needed.

The list you gave of things that don't work seems pretty good.

Too much traffic though is not a problem but a good thing. You can always
    place it on another server.

    Heres a tip:

I have realized throuought some that alot of submitters disreguard the meta keywords or meta description if there are fields for them on the submit page.

One good thing to do is possibly create a secondary page, and talk about how important it is for search engine optimization purposes to add in those fields. and how much of a benifit it will be for them to do so.

Then simply have an anchored question mark next to those boxes linking to that info on why those fields are needed.

I currently have those 2 fields disabled on my directory, but will be enabling them once i make some changes to the details page.

Like i said alot of people dont like those 2 fields, ive even read on here people disliking them or "it makes no sense to have that if you already have a description" it really does help.

    Just a tip,
    -Tim

You can auto-generate the meta keywords and meta descriptions based on the submitted entry. Try to require as few fields as possible for the submitters, and make it very very simple for them to submit.
