Hi, I used to do SEO 2-3 years ago but I stopped it and changed more to using Adwords. But now I'm making another website and trying to "re-learn" SEO. When I used to work on SEO 2-3 years ago , Blogging was cool. A lot of blog sites came on top on Google but it seems like it's not like that anymore. Also, If you have tons of pages in your own site and put links inside of the site (especially to the top page from each page), you could get PR3 easily even if the site was not linked from other sites that much. At least it seemed like that way to me. (A blog site or not) But now, I see many sites with a lot of pages and information with PR 0 or 1. I was looking at a lot of Google "blogspot" blogs which have good ammount of contents but PR 0-1. I doubt it is because the site structure is bad cuz it's made by Google! I wonder if having a lot of pages is no longer a good thing or just blogging is not evaluated as good anymore. The above things are something I noticed by "feeling" so not quite sure it's true or not. And I'm wondering if there is any big or minor changes in the SEO trend in these couple of years other than I mentioned above. Could you tell me more about recent changes in SEO trend if any? Also could you tell me what I noticed about blogging and relationship between PR and ammount of pages in the site is true? Thanks!
do a search in this forum for changes, i know the question has been asked before, a search in google will reveal a ebook about 2007 and discussions on 2008
Just to point out some trends: -- The SERPs are more geographically targeted (and they will probably be more customized to personal preferences in the future) -- Duplicate contents are penalized (copies with lower PR are out of top SERPs). Search engines are very successful in finding duplications. -- Trading links (buying/selling links) are now penalized too, when they are discoverd by search engines or reported by competitors. -- Some kinds of links have a lower value now than a few years ago (no follow links in wikipedia; ...). -- Search engine algorithms go on with tricks and they are still unable to make difference between low and high quality content. and so on
Optimizing either the blog or website with videos and posting them in youtube as well as other video sites, is a big factor in SEO presently.
Blogspot is terrible for SEO. I hardly ever get a blogspot site in search results. Even though it's Google owned, I haven't seen much from it. Wordpress does much better in my opinion, and most top blogs are Wordpress, rarely ever Blogspot. I left them for that reason, don't know if it helped or not.
I would say Link Building. Now days its really hard to build quality back links. 2 to 3 years back one way or three way link building was very easy.
Most of the professionals now start using link baiting concepts to acquire backlinks... Link building is old technique now...
Present SEO rule now,I think will involved more in 'authority and networks social" if the site has "loyal social that ready to comment and participate the discussion I think that will be appreciate greatly by google ranking system, that's why for "paid to program"having such a descent rank in quick time is easy as shoot fish in a barrel
Today, everybody focusing on Link Building and they are try to increase the back links only. Some one doing organic back link others doing Paid link. No one is focusing on "visitors"
What I've seen personally is Google favouring LSI over SEO. I'm guessing it's due to the recent changes. LSI may be seen as less spammy than SEO, that's my guess. I've starting optimising all of my articles for LSI instead of SEO now (unless it's about a specific product or service), and I guess we'll see what happens.
Wow, thanks everyone. It's been changng for sure!! A lot to learn! (Please keep going if you have other opinions!!) Thanks!!
