Are you kidding me? That is a nice creation story and I love reading about the different creation myths but it is just silly to think this one account of how we were "created" holds any more truth than any other accounts.
I love to see this kind of stuff. I don't believe in god, but i respect those who do believe. What freaks me out about that, is that they actually put that like if it was nice. I mean, my life sucks (period), so if there were a god, and he is the one who gave me the life, i should not thank him, but hate him. That's what i don't get, i have some simpathy for every religion since some people actually feels right, but sometimes they go over the limits, putting there some facts and make you believe that that's actually something good. Like "thank god for creating the earth", do you really think we should thank him? If you could have god's powers, would you REALLY be proud of creating something like earth (wich includes human kind)? If the human kind was made at his image and alikeness, what can you really say about god? That's some stuff i'll never understand.
Hey man im jealous, i thought stox liked me . I was told by a scientist that i am a collection of ganglions and nerve endings and that the formula for love is 3a times 4b divided by 7c = 1234 minus 3. Can anyone confirm?
.. we bring poverty, Hiv, famine, cancer, war, child abuse, etc., upon ourselves because we choose not to follow the right path. Either God exists or Not, everything has its opposites and it is up to us to choose what is good for us. poverty, hiv, famine or may be war because you decided not to choose peace and life.
No we don't. To blame a child for contracting HIV, having their limbs blown off through war, being sexually abused, having cancer or starving through poverty is repugnant. it's a view that i personally find absolutely repulsive. Of course, you have to hold this view because you assume that exists an entity that could intervene should it so wish. So the absence of such intervention must, According to you, place the blame on the child, or at least make it a pawn in the "master plan".
We bring famine upon ourselves because we chose not to follow the right path? I'm an atheist, which (according to you) is not following the right path, but I can eat whatever I want, infact, I'm confident that I will never have to worry about food for the rest of my life. Go to Africa, go to one of the most religious and fanatically christian continents on Earth and people there who (according to you) are following the right path, yet they're hit with famine worst than any other people in the world? Personally, I believe that it's a geographic issue, a scientific one as to why Africa lacks water and therefore has trouble growing food. According to you, it's their own doing. It's that same logic which causes children who have suffered child abuse to blame themselves in a 'god must be punishing me for being bad' way, and go on to kill themselves. It's sickening.
It's a lack of free markets. All of the political instability, intervention and a lack of property rights don't give Africans the opportunity to build their way to prosperity.
Not all people having beliefs (religious people in your speak) group things as good or bad. Most things bad are due to what people do with these things that makes it bad. For example, a knife is good for spreading healthy avocado on your healthy slice of gluten free pita bread. The knife is bad when someone stabs you in the eye with it. Get my point? I think Clinton is saying a similar thing as me. It's the same thinking as labeling me as a "hawker of religion". Tarring things with the same brush is a dangerous practice. St0x has frequently done a fair bit of tarring people this way (particularly, me!). Although, he has no idea about me. You never know, one day he might just find out about me and realise the things he called me and labeled me was wrong. I can only hope this day will come...LOL...anyway, back on topic. I hope this makes things clearer. Is it above or below a one legged man in an a$$ kicking contest? Col
Gloria1 said that god punishes those who chose the wrong way of life. You can't deny that food will grow better in countries which have a good level of vegetation with the right conditions for sprouting life and plants than a continent which consists of a lot of harsh desert land. I don't think it has much to do with the religion of the country as to whether they'll be able to eat well or not - according to Gloria1, it's the people who chose the wrong way of life who bring famine upon themselves. Forget politics for a moment because world politics is a relatively new man made thing, the point is, 'god' has put Africa at a natural, geographical, scientific disadvantage, despite some of the most fanatical christians living there. Incidentally, it's very easy for religions to recruit new members in impoverished, war-torn, troubled countries, much like the Nazis had an easy curve to power after the effects of WW1 were realised in Germany. Not many happy, wealthy people in developed nations without major problems (death in family, alcohol/drug addiction, prison time) are quick to join a religion. I didn't say all religious people, I said 'religious people tend'. If you spend time listening to a lot of religious people, you will see that this is the case. Good = god, Bad = satan. Gay people = bad, masturbation = bad, abortion = bad, sex before marriage = bad. In reality, all of these things are neither good or bad as they carry complexities which require a concept of reasoning that some religious people just can't comprehend. This is a BIG deal and really impacts upon society. Try telling a gay person that he's wrong, he's bad, he's satan... it wouldn't be the first time a gay person has killed himself because someone has told them that they're 'wrong' and 'bad' for being attracted to the same gender. Actually, these people aren't committing suicide, they're being murdered by religion.
Sure but with trade, you can import food. Not every country can produce all of it's own food. Take diamond mining for instance. The African people haven't been able to control that very valuable resource themselves. It's a problem. Well, religion is a tool of the elite and aristocracy to keep people ignorant and uneducated. I'm sure religion plays a part, but economics, in particular intervention by government, occupiers, invaders, warlords etc are a big issue.
True. Many religious people say some pretty disturbing things without realising the effect it could have on the people that are listening. Trust me on this. I spend a great deal of time listening to religious people. I discuss the Bible with as many people as I can in my entire district. It is interesting so many viewpoints are out there. It is not my job to say any person is bad. I can only point to the Bible for solutions to man's problems, no matter what it is they are doing or what they have done in the past. We have no right to judge people because we are not in their shoes 24/7, we don't really know why some people do the things they do. I have seen many people from very different walks of life change their own situation just from applying what the Bible teaches. Now, they couldn't be happier, knowing someone really cares for them and understands their situation.
