What happens when I change my link url?

What happens to the backlinks on my homepage if I change my linking url from my website's homepage to an internal page for a couple of weeks? Will I lose the backlinks off of my homepage? If I lose them off of my homepage will they go down gradually or all at the same time?

    Thanks!

You backlinks would gradually diminish as the search engines spider those pages where your link was previously found.

a couple of weeks? I don't think you'll see much change. There are sites in google that haven't even been up in a year, and still show up high in SERPs.

what? Those pages should be crawled all the more frequently.

Besides, the PR for those pages might be heavily due to IBLs from other outdated sites who have neglected to take the links down.
