Google doesn't like sitewide links!!! Ok, i wont sponsor templates, etc... but how about this situation: - A university office has asked me to make them (a part of the university) a website and agreed to put a link to my website there... do i make it a sitewide link on their section (ex. ttt.vvvv.edu) or do I just put it on their homepage?
I would say homepage... its just like getting a high quality forum template. If the author made it free, they want some publicity, so they are going to put there link on the homepage so that if someone goes and is immediatly impressed they can find the authors URL, as opposed to it being on everypage where, by the time they have surfed the site awhile, will decide if they want to check the authors site or not. So having your link sitewide might hurt.
yes, if possible just put it in the homepage. However I still think sitewide link is ok if that site is not for commercial purpose.(just my thought) it should be .edu back link, right? sweet.
Home page beter. google not carry on PR from any personalized page. like student page. abc~.city.edu , google can recognize those sub dir. so better take from home page.
Go for the home page or for a page that is related to your content. Either of those will help you in the SERPs. I'd avoid the site wide links.
Google doesn't like a bunch of stuff. If you run your entire business in terms of Google, you may as well close down your site. If the link is a relevant site and would bring you traffic, I would jump on it. However, if it is just for PR boost, I say no.
There is not much difference between a homepage link and sitewide link from the same domain. If I were to choose it would be homepage, because it looks more natural. Although sitewide can make sense if you anticipate it will send lots of targeted traffic.
