What happens if you buy a former registered domain

I want to know what adds value to google rankings?

For example I have one site lets call it site1.com
It was originally purchased designed & indexed in 2000 by me
It went down in 2003 & the URL expired & I bought it rebought it as a new register in 2004.

Does google look at it as a site that has been indexed since 2000?
Or does google actually look at the real registration date to make it's search ranking better?

I would say no. I have a site that's been around since 97, lost the domain once for a couple of months when I forgot it expired. It's always had content (no seo until the last year), it was in google at one point. It is lousily ranked.....

 

PR is reset. You need to build links again, or wait for ~8-10 months.

I've had trouble getting some expired domains ive bought to be indexed at all. Google comes by but never indexes. I thought it could be because the domain was banned when the previous owned had it. But looking at archived copies I don't see anything ban worthy.

 

You can email google, I bought an expired domain and I bought the content from the previous owner and put the site back up and emailed google with the facts that its the same domain/content and spoe to a human>briefly.

 

When buying expired domain, Google threat the new content as totally new domain. The DMOZ directory deletes the listing, when domain expired.
Anyhow, what the domain keeps are backlinks that remained all over the net (if any).

Even if you transfer domain from registrar to another and change the content, it might happen, that Google will give temporary penalty on such domain.

 

Right, you are not knowing the history and tainted past of a domain. If an innocent webmaster ends up not being able to get into Google, they are just "collateral damage" for him.

Google keeps track of expired domains and its harder to get an expired domain indexed to google. I had the same problem before but overtime its all good.

 

That's exactly what happened to me, I still wonder what it's the problem with my domain.

 

Did you do anything special to have it indexed?
