What happens if I submit to the same directory multiple times

Discussion in 'Directories' started by shulink, Sep 18, 2008.

Hi, with so many directories and a lot of them have similar styles and templates, I have no way to remember which ones I already submitted and which ones I haven't submit. My question is what happens if I submit to a same directory more than once weather if my site is already listed or waiting for approval? Will they ban my site or they have built in function to check if my site is already in their system?

A web dir. accepts your site only once until its removed. You will receive msg lik "A pending link already exists" or "Link Already Exists" msg.

You will not get banned, most will just not list the same website twice.

Your second one would be rejected, or if they were both in the approval queue at the same time, some directories might reject both.

Depends on how good quality it is and the care of the editors.

Not necessarily. In phpld at least, there is an option for the directory owner to allow the same link to be submitted in multiple categories. In which case if an already approved link was submitted to a second relevant category it would most likely be approved again.

Most of the web directory today are human edited, so once the saw you submit your site twice or more, they will not approve your submissions.

I don't think that a site get banned by a directory because of too many submissions. Because directory sites give options for multiple submissions to the owner / editor.
You can submit orderly with a list of directories. This will save your time.
There are too many lists around. You may also create your own.
Noone can remember the directories which were already submitted :)

simply, you're wasting your time. Track your submissions is advisable. You can do it for free here. Flag directory listings in different ways (up to seven e.g: featured pending, featured approved, regular pending, regular approved, etc), each time you flag the current date is automatically registered, so, you can revise it periodically knowing exactly when you did each submission to check/update the submission status.:)

As a webmaster you should keep track of domains and directory where you have submitted your site;) You should crosscheck if you have already submitted to any directory it will save your time if you have already submitted a particular domain for a directory ;)

Tracking submissions is as easy as opening a spreadsheet and copying in the domains after you have completed a submission.

As to whether or not you will get banned, the answer is that it depends on the directory and the directory owners policies. Simply stating that you will get a duplicate domain error message is just plain stupid because not all directories use phpLD and not all phpLD installs have the option switched on/off.

I specifically ban repeat submitters because 90% of them are spammers trying to get in hundreds of deeplink submissions. Banning them saves me having to keep delete them.

Also when people use services such as "Submit (read spam) your site to 1000 directories for $0.35" the people who carry out the submissions don't spend any time checking if a domain is already listed in a given directory.

If you as a webmaster go and use 10 of these services and my directories are on thier spam ... cough.... I mean submission list then that is 9 possibly 10 submits I have to delete. Multiply that by the 15 directories that I own and that is 135 to 150 submits I have to delete.

So yes, you can get banned whether it is your intention to spam or not. Keep track of your submissions and only use reputable submission services.

It's better than nothing, but a good tracking should be made also registering submission dates, submission types (free, reciprocal, featured, etc) and submission status(approved, pending, rejected). For this reason I have recommended linksadmin.net to do it.:)

As per my experience. Mostly Dirs show a msg "Domain Already Exists" and some dirs accepts it and approve it but a few one only. Rest I don't think one should get banned for just multiple submission.

However, it would be better to check your listing in directory before you submit it. :)

Most directories will not even let you submit
a second time if your site is included and most times
even if your site is in queue

But its really a waste of time to fill everything out
just to find out that you have submitted

as mentioned above just keep a spreadsheet of
your submissions and check the ones you
    have submitted

Nearly all directories will say "domain already exists in directory"

to save time keep a big spreadsheet then sort by a-z when you finis using it each time
