What happens if a lot of clicks are coming from the same network?

    Hey,

I'm sure someone has been in the same or similar situation before.

I have a website which is mainly being used in schools, universities and colleges all in my city, I have checked and the same IP is being used on the complete network for at least one college and university, I haven't been able to check school networks.

My site is mainly targeting people in these and I am using adsense, I am worried that google will think they are invalid clicks if the same IP is used for a huge % of clicks - I know I would be for private advertising.

Can anyone give me advise on what I should do?

It is even making me reconsider using adsense but it will be the same for any CPC / CPM network..

This is for a local / regional social network that is mainly for students, most likely high impressions, low CTR

There are many ways to prevent it:-
    1. Block the IP address of the person
    2. If you are using WordPress then install add logger plugin & in settings, allow 2 clicks from same IP in a day
    3. Increase your page views by sharing site pages in website like Stumble upon, Pinterest, Facebook etc. which will reduce your CTR.

Thanks for the reply Sanjeev, but can you read the post again, please :)

My site is mainly for these people, it is for thousands in a region, a huge amount using the same IP - An IP that is for the student networks.

Blocking that is blocking pretty much all traffic, the IP is not for 1 person, it is for a network in the university, college etc.

I don't get this at all...Why would I want to reduce my CTR?

If what you are doing is legitimate, then you have nothing to worry about even if you are receiving multiple clicks from the same IP (Google has other methods of seeing the uniqueness of clicks).

If it is illegitimate, Google will figure it out sooner or later and you will either receive a warning or have your Adsense account closed.

I have been using google years on a lot of sites without a problem, this is 100% legit.

I wouldn't risk my other sites being banned on the account if they thought it was illegal clicks coming from 1 site.

I think receiving too many clicks from one IP is not good, you should blogck it..... for safety of your account.

If your site is receiving 1000 clicks naturally and 10 clicks from one IP then it would be considered as well...

But most of the clicks are from one IP address then it is not good, it creates suspicion...

Google doesn't know that your student network is using, it knows, IP, location, time, pages, content etc.

    That is exactly my problem.

How can I prove these are real?

The IP and location will be the same on a lot of occasions, everything else will be a normal user(s) browsing.

The site has tens of thousands of pages right now, including forums, social network pages, photos, directory, unique local relevant content (A lot)...

I don't want to get an account banned just because it is coming from the same networks that my target market is using.

As previously mentioned, if you're not doing anything you shouldn't be, then you have nothing to worry about.
