I remember a while back there was some stuff going on and it was all to do with how he generated bogus clicks on the ebay affiliate programme. Was just wondering what happened in this case or is it still on-going? Or maybe point me to a thread about it if there is one.
eBay Sues Alleged 'Cookie Stuffers' SAN FRANCISCO (CN) - Three men defrauded eBay in a "cookie stuffing" scheme that made it appear the men's companies should be paid commissions, eBay claims in Federal Court. It sued Shawn Hogan and Digital Point Solutions, Todd Dunning and Kessler's Flying Circus, and Brian Dunning and Thunderwood Holdings. eBay says the men devised software programs that, "unbeknownst to the [computer] user, redirected the user's computer to the eBay Web site without the user actually clicking on an eBay advertisement link, or even becoming aware that they had left the page they were previously viewing. As a result, the eBay site would be prompted to drop an eBay cookie on the user's computer even though the user never clicked on an eBay advertisement or even realized that their computer had ever visited the eBay site." The complaint continues: "once the cookie was stuffed on the user's computer by one or more of the defendant's any future revenue actions initiated by that user when the user later visited eBay intentionally, and not as a result of any advertisement places by defendants, appeared to be eligible for commissions payable to one of the defendants". eBay claims the defendants also used deceptive means to prevent it from discovering the fraud, and to conceal it. eBay demands compensatory, treble and punitive damages. It is represented by David Eberhart with O'Melveny & Myers.
Interesting I never knew about this until today! On another note I do remember hearing rumours of the DP Coop losing peoples SERPS by participating in it on many other websites but was never quite sure what to make of the accusations. It's so easy to flame someone else or a site on another site and readers can never be sure what is true and what is just bull written by bitter people. I am aware now this lawsuit happened, so like the OP asked what was the outcome? Heck you can't even be sure about things like reviews on here let alone elsewhere (in reference to many things) but it seems the suits mentioned by bacardirum we're real and happened. There is that crappy TopSEO's site Aaron Wall has called out for taking payment to give awards to "so called" top SEO's and all sorts of paid review shit deceiving people all over the place that proves you ought not belive all you read and hear though. eBay isn't exactly perfect either, many many scams have occured on there.
i was using ebay cookie stuffing long time ago. After made about $7000 they banned me and my paypal account. They are clever now, but cookie stuf still works with neverblue hydranetwork and some affiliates out there.
All I can say is...wow I love the honesty, but...wow. You do know that affiliate managers are members of this forum, don't you ?
It is still going through the court system, and has been for the past three or so years. Last time I checked, there was a motion to deny the plaintiff documents that were one the defendants servers, due to the government looking into pressing criminal charges. Feel free to read the docket at http://news.justia.com/cases/featured/california/candce/5:2008cv04052/206526/ for specific information and filings.
