What happened to all of our Religion Threads?

We used to have so many, and the argument there was at least intellectual.

Politics gets boring after a while:(

If this is too off topic, sorry, I'll delete it.

I've been involved in several recently. However, stox and crew wants to just throw mud rather than actually discussing issues. They typically end very quickly.

boohoo phpgator, Sorry for not letting you get away with making logical fallacies, disjointed arguments and ad hoc reasoning.

The reason for the decrease in religious threads is that the religious get so consistently schooled on this forum that they have given up.

lol stOx I remember the religious threads are how I found P&R.

Those were the good old days. :D

I remember making the statement about how the physical evidence we have of dinosaurs today disproves the ridiculous notion that the earth is only 7,000 years old..... The argument devolved to the point they were trying to convince us that Noah had dinosaurs on his ark! :D:D

That thread went on to produce gems like this for us to enjoy:

yet I don't believe that in even one of these threads an atheist became religious, or vice versa...

Religious debates are boring because they always end the same way with the same arguments on both sides. I am rendered quizzical by those threads; they just confuse the hell out of me.

I am intrigued by political and economic debates. I also find it some times amusing some peoples' stances on issues or what they believe to be causes of events.

Actually I think the replies in this thread so far have leaned mroe towards proving stOx's point.

Coming out strongly for religion these days is like coming out strongly supporting George Bush.

It just doesn't happen. And for good reason.

Well, I know a few people who are strongly deists, although they are definitely christian deists, not christians. Science has rendered being a true christian (as opposed to believing that god started the universe and then left it alone) effectively impossible.

Ahhgh even the computer is a christian deist- spell check wants christian to be capitalized, instead of lowercase like any other adjective.

I think a lot of them put us on ignore actually.

Which when you really think about it makes sense because there are only a handful of atheists/agnostics here. So once they realized they had ignored everyone that disagreed with them they had no one to talk to and they left :D Because without an opposing view you might as well go back to your church/cult and sit around agreeing with all the other gullibles believing anything they say in the cult meetings.

It's a strange phenomenon. The ones that had the courage to stay even when they started feeling like idiots are the ones that start behaving like the example I've quoted here..... they go around replying to anyone who replies to someone they have on ignore just so they can say "I can't see what that person is saying".

    Hahaha brilliant!

    Well, you are greatly mistaken.

I put people on ignore when they ramble on about stuff that they are clueless about only to try to tick off someone. Or if they never add to the discussion. stox and gworld are on ignore because each post is useless.

Seems like there is a guy who brings up dinosaurs in each discussion with Christianity as some sort of proof. When like the cartoon above shows the ignorance in the artist mind of what is really believed, so does saying dinosaurs are proof. But some religious people don't base their beliefs on truth, so then it becomes useless to continue the discussion with some.

Pretty good point. Can't argue with you there.

But I disagree about the picture displaying the artist's ignorance. It's a joke. Meant to make fun of the very idea that while all these fantastical stories were happening in the bible there were giant man eating lizards running around and they just "forgot" to mention that...

It's not proof that God doesn't exist, but it is proof that the very premise of the truthfulness of the bible is fatally flawed.

And that's OK. It was written by men who wanted you to believe it is the word of God. But men, nonetheless. Nothing more.

huh? Do you mean separate the P&R forum into P & R?

    Might be a good idea.

Well, the only thing I can say is congrats.

Those deists can worry about going to hell, eternal punishment blah blah blah, while us atheists can ignore that and do what's right.

Religion will always triumph over the belief that no God exist.

Religious people live longer, have better lives more and act righteously most of the times.

There are a few who will try to convience others that God does not exist or that it is bad for humanity that is it bad to belief in such things. Whatever the reason is, they exist and they will exist like they do all the time.

There is always a left and a right to each side. Most times, each side act arrogantly and are too extreme to their position.

    Peace,

Possibly, humans are hardwired to fear death so they need a consolation at all means, and it seems that that fear is stronger that our ability to reason.
This statement sounds too authoritative to be a personal opinion, but I guess it is.
