what google should do

seriously, i'm getting sick of googles terrible results.

It seems to me that you can't create an alogrithm that incorporates everything without giving odd results.

Google are so damn rich, they would probably be better off having a panel of humans that actually look at the sites and evaluate them that way - a spam site is blatently obvious to any of us, as is a quality site

yet googles algorithm can't seem to tell

Yes it would be a lot of work, but I think they can afford it

-unless of course this is just a shameless attempt to make us use adsense. I hope not..

I think you're right. The Google Algo is out of control at this point, and it's going to take them awhile to figure it out.
I think they want independent webmasters and small businesses to spend money on Adwords in order to be on the front page.
Only time will tell how this will play out, so I'm starting to look at other ways to get by until this mess is sorted out.

Google's algorithms have hurt a lot of smaller sites and sellers. If you're making money with AdSense only, Google seems to like you more than if you're trying to make money by other means. ;)

Google wasn't born to please all users.

same thing happened after farmer/panda update where lot of junk results were showing on the front page and lot of good quality sites were no where to be found. even though google says the penguine update has been completely rolled out, i'm sure there will be lot of tweaking to settle the dust.

Why you are so pissed off? Are you being beaten by a spam site?
Just report the listing to Google (I guess you know how to report a spam).

follow the money....... they do it only to maximaize their profit. they want more people to spend on adwords. but i guess lots of webmasters will stop to promote their sites on google and will move to facebook, twitter, yahoo and bing.

Of course the main reason for this update isn't just to make the search results more relevant, but to make more money from adwords. Soon the 1st page of google search will be just a page full of adwords spam. Do you really think that the big "G" is here for ppl and will not take the advantage of the monopoly? They have been building their domination for last 10 years now it's time to make some serious money from it...

Because they want to keep the money for themselves.

As long as they are the main SE in the market, there is nothing we can do.

Most people should forget about improving their sites for SEO. There are a billion websites out there and only 3 or 4 organic search positions that are worthwhile.
In the future you may have to have 3,000 pages of original "good" content to reach in the money ranking positions. I think it over for SEO for the little guy.

SEO should never have been looked at as this nuclear end-all-be-all which it started to be referred to for some. It is important for a site, but there is A LOT more to be considered esp. social media, which is growing by the second.

To the OP, there is absolutely NO WAY Google could ever go through ever site with a panel going one by one. That is absolutely ludicrous, lol. I don't know if you were serious or what, but even going back to the 1990s when the internet was a brand new there was 100s of thousands of sites for David and Filo to sort through for David And Filo's Web Directory(the first internet SE, what became Yahoo!). Pretty soon there was so many sites to file through it wasn't humanely possible for people to even single out the best ones.... there were that many good ones. So they developed an engine.... an algorithm that could crawl the internet and determine which sites were best. More appropriately, Yahoo! "borrowed" AltaVista's technology and used it to rank websites.

You getting the rift here at all?

Ultimately I think Google cares WAY more about users than it does about Adwords profits. Sure it could squeeze an extra couple billion(at most) if it got marketers to spend more on Adwords. But the real threat is some newer Google coming out with a better engine, which Google did to all the others so many years back. It was late to the game, but was so much better it triumphed and pretty soon dominated.

So Google always has teams building a better and better SE for users, so they can maintain their dominance. It is very smart and the way they stay on top; otherwise some pirates would come along and carpe diem(That is how tech works and one of the things that makes it an awesome industry )

So first, understand that they are doing this for the users. IF it negatively effects the user, the clock starts....

    Best of luck!

You don't understand tech if you think time in dominance makes any difference.

In fact, it's the opposite. Big giants have regularly been usurped from their position by small pirates. IBM, Apple, Microsoft, Yahoo!, Netscape, Myspace and many others have gone to dominance in a market and subsequently fallen down. Microsoft basically started caring more about profit than products, like your saying, and look what's happened to them. They're a bloated giant beaten by Apple in every new product category.

I'm not sure if Google is "here for ppl" but since the founders unseated Yahoo!, which was the biggest internet company in the '90s, they should know the lessons of technology.

I think it's hard for a giant to fall in the business sense if they have enough money and they continue to compete in different spaces. It's when they go stagnant out of arrogance or whatever the case they tend to get up rooted by a new up and comer. I think there's a lot of good to Google, but at the end of the day they're still a corporation so their bottom line of course matters to them, maybe now more than ever.
