What gets flagged when an Adwords account is slapped?

    Hi guys,

great little community you have here. Glad to be the newest addition.

Here is my issue with PPC - I have had an account slapped about 6 months ago. I was promoting some sites that Google found dodgy. Since then I have completely shifted my efforts but I still have the same issues. I made a new account and the quality score was 3/10 within minutes for all my keywords.

Then, I opened a third account, from a new computer with a new IP address and using my GF's name and credit card. Again the same thing happened. Now I am sure that the websites I am promoting now are not dodgy.

So, my question is this - what could be getting flagged when a slap happens? An IP? A computer? The name? Address? Website server IP?

Emailing their support is getting me nowhere. I keep getting generic responses about increasing the bids and improving the quality of the content?

Maybe if I got new hosting for my future websites?

    What do you guys think?

First, stop what you're doing by creating new accounts. That will surely get you banned eventually. You may have already gone too far. Why do you expect getting different results in different accounts? Fix the problem. Close all but one account.

The good news is that you have not been suspended or banned. If you were, your QS would be 1 across the board.

You got to understand the QS system. There's 3 components: your relevancy, your click rate as compared to competitors (which is the most important) and landing page. That last one is simply what I call the "follow the rules" component because that's really what it is. It's the one that gets you QS of 1 and stops your campaign.

Things that get you a QS of 1 is promoting products that you call dodgy, tobacco products for one. Using misleading language and inaccurate claims (lose 25 pounds by next week) is another. There's more so read the Adwords policies.

Check your keywords for relevancy. In the online interface, hover over the speech bubble next to each keyword. It will tell you if the system thinks the keyword is relevant or not. A low QS like 2 or 3 is often having an irrelevant keyword. Relevancy is 25% of your score.

But like I said, CTR is by far the most important. That's the real quality. That's what you got to increase. In other words, your ads are not very good and people don't click on them.

You'll likely say that you haven't accumulated any data. Well, the algorithm is very sophisticated. It checks many things about your ad and based on all the history they have, it figures your ad would not get a good click rate. Poor ads is the problem of most new advertisers but my guess is you probably are using irrelevant keywords, another common mistake new advertisers do.
