What forum software should I use?

Hi again everyone. Regarding forum software:

I need to have a number of pages to my website including sports scores, member offers, etc. What software would you recommend? Can I easily have a number of different pages incorporating xml feeds, etc with all software? I am looking at PHPBB but don't mind paying to have Vbulletin as I also prefer the "liquid" and CMS option available through it.

Leading on from this, what are the main advantages of Vbulletin over the other free options? Is it worth the money?

Sorry if these sound like real newbie questions but I have never gotten involved in forums before!

Thanks in advance for any responses.

vB kinda sucks ever since the acquisition by Internetbrands.

I'd rather go with IPB - IIRC one of the largest gaming sites (GoonSwarm) have it fully integrated with virtually everything, from game APIs to score reporting, kill counting, and VoIP so it shouldn't be that hard to customise it (IPB is paid, btw - not free like phpbb)

i wouldn't, mybb is a good free software but it's rated last for me in terms of maintenance.

i recommend IPB(invision power board), or SMF, but it's really up to you and what you want in a forum. good luck!

You can start with SMF which is free and have a great community and lots of addons and if you are not happy with it move into vBulletin.
There are migration tools for moving from SMF to vB which will do the most tasks automatically.

Phpbb and SMF can be useful to you. These are also open source and free.
