what "field" would this be?

hi, y'all. just a quick question here. im pretty much "a kid" compared to the ages of some of you professionals in here. will be going to university very soon and was just wondering what this whole thing (seo, web applications, web languages, the web, internet, etc.) could be classified as?

im very interested in the field of the internet and the web and will learn what i gotta learn (computer+web programming) to make it even more interesting. i guess someday i'd like to create my own web apps.

so, does this whole "thing" fall under the category/major of computer science? or is it something else? I've always thought that computer science was mostly like building robots, making machines, etc.

    thanx.

    from my experience,
    - computer science = more software programming, little hardware
    - computer engineering = more hardware, little software programming
