Hey, As a social media marketer, and web designer I often see people create a facebook page, tell their friends, and expect people to come, and if its built around some sort of affiliate program then they expect to make mad cash. This just doesn't work for most people, I'm not saying it couldn't work - anything has a chance of working under the right circumstance. Here's the best way I've found to build a facebook fan / business page. First: Make sure that the entry or first page people see is NOT the wall. You want to put forth a good first impression, and the wall is boring. Second: This welcome screen is a good place to cross promote other networks like twitter. - I like to use some php to display my last 3 tweets. You could also display recent blog posts as well. Third: Offer something Free. Everybody loves free stuff, write a short ebook on your niche and give it away free. There's some FBML code you can use when programming your welcome page that can make it so that only people who click the 'like' button can download the book. This is brilliant because its like having them enter their email address, but easier. Clicking "like" is super easy - don't believe me? Why not click the like button at the top of this post to see just how easy it is. -- Now I'm not going to tell you how to do all that I discussed here - namely integrating twitter, or programming fbml code that's beyond the scope of the topic just do some google searches, or hire someone to do it for you.
