When your making a website that you are really serious about.

What domain extensions do you buy of that domain?

    depends
    usually .com
being its the most popular by far
but i also like .nets, .infos and a few others

but if i find a great name ill usually register all tld's so no one can hold the other exts over my head for ransom! :)

I usually buy the .com extension and if I have extra money, I go for the .net.

.com is always the best and most popular. However its so hard to find a good short domain with .com. Therefore some might choice a less common extention with an easier domain.

    good luck

if the .com is available i'd only buy that one TLD since i'm cheap. if it were going to be a huge commercial venture i'd probably buy the rest of the next most popular TLDs along with it (.net, .org and .info).

dotCOM, dotNET and dotORG are quite enough for any serious business.

    Depends.
    .com definitely
Then if I want to minimize potential "squatters" or to promote branding...
    .net,.org,.info
If the name lends itself to tv usage...I might consider .tv too.

In the past mainly stuck to the top 3...but since someone registered the
.info of a domain I had in the 3 extensions and the .info registrant proceeded to use it for spamming, I've been
thinking it would be best to take that extension off the table from now on.

.net is the main one for my website. I have always prefered .net for some reason.
