What exactly is a niche site?

I see a lot of people refer to a niche site. That you should design a niche site, using such and such programs. I understand that many people do not want to give their own sites as an example because they think someone will copy it.

So which of the following would be a niche site?

1. Site on Alarm Clocks

2. Site on Water Bottles.

3. Site on Hiking Boots.

Are all of these too broad.... for instance would they need to be

1. Small Digital Alarm Clocks

2. Plastic BPA Free Water Bottles

3. Leather Free Hiking Boots.

NICHE is to be specific in any category...! all topics you have mentioned are niche sites

 

Niche sites are basically dealing with one broad or small topic. You are right with your listing.

A niche site is about one certain topic. Dinosaurs, tigers, karate, etc.

Something that's not a niche site would be facebook, digg, etc.

 

Niche means a topic, a subject. site must be targeted to specific subject. that's it.

some niche site can be very big site like a weight loss site (you can talk about anything related to weight loss), some are more specific like acai berry's (you can only talk about acai berry's)

 

In simple words, a niche is topic. All the sites mentioned by you are called niches.
