What exactly is a "link farm"?

So, how do I determine if a site is a link farm?

I submit my sites to directories - are directories link farms? I'm relatively new so I just want to be sure.

Seriously though, remember the FFA link pages that used to sit around the net, inviting everyone to post a link? You'd end up with thousands of completely jumbled links with absolutely no relation to one another? Nowadays, what you'll often see is a web site with "links" pages stuffed off to the side somewhere. These links pages will contains tons of links to all kinds of garbage, whether related or not, and I'd question the value of being in that as well. A lot of link-trading schemes end up with stuff like this as the end results.

Anyway, I suspect Wikipedia does a much better job at defining it than I.

Just figure out whether the links on a page "belong" on the site in question and whether there is any "organization" or "relationship" that makes logical sense for those links. If not, don't add yourself to low quality links pages... at least in my opinion.

I requested a link exchange with another site the other day and the webmaster refused. His reason was that I was linking to a link farm. What did he mean by that?

Look it is not anything to do with the number of links. It means that you are trading links without caring for the content. If your link building is automatic, and you are linking and getting links from websites that have nothing to do with your website, then that is a link farm.

Link Firm is group of the website linked with each other. Google hate the backlinks from the link firm.

After Google panda 2.2 , its not so good.
Use genuine backlinks method to create link. instead of linkfram.
linkfram is also a method to make backlinks
