I have a quick question. When I go to google and search "www.tankinz.com" (my url) I get quite a few results. Yet when I type in "link:www.tankinz.com" I only get one result. I am just starting to learn how to pagerank better and I understand that backlinks are very useful. So by typing in "link:www.tankinz.com" are these back links?
A backlink is any link on someone elses site that points to your site. Here's some links with info on backlinks:- http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/google-provides-backlink-tool-for-site-owners/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backlink http://www.webconfs.com/backlink-builder.php http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=42533 Here's a list of sites that have backlink checker tools:- http://www.domain-pop.com/ http://www.iwebtool.com/backlink_checker http://www.backlinkwatch.com/ http://www.online-utility.org/webmaster/backlink_domain_analyzer.jsp http://marketleap.com/publinkpop/
Google does not disclose all your backlinks, so typing link:www.tankinz.com in Google will only show a sample of backlinks. Check linkpopularity.com to see your backlinks in 3 major search engines.
Great, this saves me from a new thread. I was wondering how to view google backlinks. Thanks for the info!
You can use yahoo's site explorer to give you a pretty accurate look at site backlinks, yours and other people's. to use a backup or a 2nd opinion, try backlinkwatch.com
Google's link:// command only shows links to your homepage, and doesn't show all The absolute BEST tool for checking backlinks is Google's Webmaster Tool http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools because it gives you backlinks for each page of your site. Not to mention a lot of other data and information useful to rank well in Google (e.g. how often Google crawls your site, if Google finds problems with your title and description tags, etc)
