What is exactly a considered a "link" or a "backlink" are they the same thing? My question is this. When I go to google and search www.tankinz.com (my url) I get quite a few results. I assume these are the pages I have indexed with google. Yet when I type in 'link:www.tankinz.com" all I show is one link. Is this a backlink or....????
The first one is just showing you pages where your site is mentioned, not links. The link operator doesn't work in google, they have deliberately disabled, or at least limited, it. Try it in yahoo to get a better picture of your backlinks / and/ or register with Google Webmaster Tools.
I'm pretty sure you have to type in links:www.tankinz.com to see your backlinks, you're missing an "s", that's why there's only one showing up.
PERFECT. So how do you do it in Yahoo?? Just the same link:www.tankinz.com? Also, I do have webtools with google, where do I go to find the links on there?
I recommend getting SEO for firefox or SEO quake these both show how many backlinks a site has just by doing a google search for that site.
Yes, backlinks are links back to your site that are posted on other sites. It helps boost the relevance of your site if it's referred by others. The more prominent the site, the better the backlink value. But DON'T buy into alleged SEO that hosts a bunch of sites for the sole purpose of listing backlinks to their customers' sites. Search engines are smarter than that, and such practices can actually hurt your ranking.
Yes, that means Google has given importance to only 1 back link that you are getting among other back links. Google won't show all backlinks as it may not consider them important enough, but it does not mean it does not know about them.
So really, right now, according to google, I only have one legit back link. Where can I get somemore backlinks that google likes? Any ideas?
It should also be noted that the value of backlink can be affected by the content of the site linking to your site. If the content is relevant, then the link can be valued higher. For example a site about ford mustang tuning linking to a persons site about their project ford mustang would be relevant, but a website about flowers linking to the same site would be much less relevant.
Yes, a back link is essentially a site which has your link on it. Most members here have their link in their signature, that is a back link. The more you have, the better page rank (in general).
backlinks means creating a hyperlink to any text or image on any of the site. If your site is just written in text but doesnt contains the link in the text. It will not be called as backlink.
