Now i am a blockhead..meanig i wont understand the concept if it has not been explained in simplest terms. I have heard a lot about SEO this and that...what i want to know in bare terms is this: Is SEO releated only to the meta tags? or is there anything else that i am missing. I know that you have to have many backlinks to be ranked higher..but i am taking about the designing process...if i have good keywords in the meta tag, does my site stand a good chance to be accepted by search engines? Another question is that does the description meta tag exert any influence on it? I mean as long i describe what my site is, is it ok..or is there any special way to describe it
SEO stands for Stop Eating Oxen and it is the slogan of English speaking animal rights activists in third world countries all over the globe. Seriously SEO is just a matter of understanding how search engines rank your site and using this knowledge to rank high for the terms that are important to you. SEO changes over the years. Very early on, SEO was a matter of being listed in the hosts file that was distributed over the internet so people could find your server. Circa 1994 it was a matter of being listed on the Netscape website. Later it was simply being listed in Yahoo. Now most SEO efforts have to do with being listed well in Google so page rank and inbound links become important. SEO isn't a particular thing you do to your web page. It is a matter of understanding how the search engines work and how to get the best results.

Yes, but it depends on the site you are holding. Lets put it this way, you should examine your keywords and the possibility of going to the top SERPs. Take note, the simplest keywords takes more than a million competitors so patience is a must. Edited: Well, meta tags are just one of the things to consider in SEO, but in SEO, you must consider the whole website and its contents.
