What exactly are the qualities of a good quality article?

I am not really into writing and i would better pay someone good to write for me but i see many writers talking about quality so help me with the list please.

Because if an article is unique then that itself is enough so where does the quality comes? And about the grammar and typos, that's basics of English. About market research and keywords... that falls under your 'unique' claim. So whats left?

Grammar, spelling and most importantly, colloquialisms. I've found that many writers get the first two, but have a harder time with the third.

You've hit the biggies. The problem is that many who claim to be writers don't follow the basics of English or acknowledge what most would consider the definition of unique.

The sad truth is that there are many liars and thieves masquerading as writers who would try to sell the Gettysburg Address and still claim they wrote it. Or, they take a previously published piece and rewrite it by inserting synonyms for every other word.

Unique does not include market research and keywords. You had better be clear up front whether you are providing that information or expecting the writer to do that research. Unless you are hiring a "quality" writer who actually cares about their clients, I doubt that you will like the results of their market research and keywords. Uniqueness alone is not enough. An article can be 100% unique and even grammatically correct but still not be worth ten cents.

    Some examples...

1st grader - John went to the store.

Normal writing - John drove to Walmart to buy a pair of black Chinos.

Poorly rewritten but unique writing - John traversed the thoroughfare to come to the destination establishment known as Walmart for the acquisition of atramentous trousers manufactured by the large, international corporation entitled Chinos.

The last example is grammatically correct and of course ridiculous, but I bet every writer in this forum has seem similar "unique" writings.

First thing first you need to give your article an eye catching title after finishing up writing the main body. While writing the body you need to introduce your thoughts, develop it and finally put forward your final viewpoint on the matter.

No one seems yet to have mentioned that an article will ultimately be read by a person. Getting your grammar, spelling, punctuation and SEO right is all well and good but if the article has nothing to say, no point to make and is of no value to the reader then it is poor quality. If it serves no purpose then it cannot be fit for purpose.
When you set out to write an article you need to have a reason for writing it. It could be that the reason is to do with persuasive sales or it could be you want to impart some knowedge or opinion that readers will find valuable, interesting or even just controversial. The value has to be there and the writer should be able to articulate that value.

YMC, while you made a good point. Perry Rose pointed it in another thread as "common sens crap". Just try to reach the required number of words and submit the article for publication.

I think unique is overrated here. There are reasons. DP webmasters don't look for quality. They don't have the budget nor do understand the value of providing value to other people. Get 10 unique articles for $5 and publish them. Unique means it won't be caught by a Google radar. It must be cheap because it won't convert well. It'll bring some traffic that, sometimes, doesn't pay the price of the article.

These community can't evolve, because they are stuck in this business model. And this business model (freemium) is dying.

Now for the choice of the writer, you need to find one that did good jobs in the past (good portfolio) and pay what the copy is really worth it!

    The article should:

    1) Attract a visitor's attention (title and the intro)

    2) Make them go through the entire article

    3) Subconsciously force them to purchase it.

All said and done, a slim person will never perform the above-mentioned actions if the product in question relates to anti-obesity, but there are instances where a Nikon salesman has purchased a Cannon camera, just because they were convinced by the article that their competitor's product was better than theirs.

I didn't mention human readable or whether or not the piece is informative on purpose. If the piece is going on a made for Adsense site, it can lead to far greater conversions/clicks if the piece does not actually provide the information the reader came looking for. MFA still should be readable, it just generally has a lower standard of information exchange.

This is the crux of the matter for me...take CV help as an example, Google it and you will find pages of rubbish, stuff that has been created as content but is worthless to the reader. It takes the average person a moment to realise the text is rubbish and move on.

Any content needs to have an obvious point, and it needs to make sense...i couldn't agree more with peejaydee

A top article can be quality, original, unique, SEO keyword researched, and topic researched. That takes time, but is often needed to provide a client the maximum benefit.

There is also a big difference between buyer, as in job postings, and a client. A client is usually a professional business owner. It can take hours on the phone and/or emailing to educate a client why they need all five. However, then both the writer and client profit accordingly.

YMC gave a well stated statement:
“Unique does not include market research and keywords. You had better be clear up front whether you are providing that information or expecting the writer to do that research. Unless you are hiring a "quality" writer who actually cares about their clients, I doubt that you will like the results of their market research and keywords. Uniqueness alone is not enough. -unique
    -Grammatically correct
-Fool of information that really describe the title of the article

The key is to write something original. Everyone can write something unique, because everyone is different. If you're having trouble with ideas on what to write next, you can come up with new article ideas from previous articles.

Sure, it's always good to write with those five things kept in mind, as well as grammar and punctuation and spelling. But there is a way to take a topic and create a unique tone to it, by adding your own personality.

A quality article, in my opinion, is one that is grammatically correct, is related to the product you are advertising, and flows very well. The flow of an article is really the main difference between an average writer and a high quality writer. I run a team of content writers, and during the interview process, whenever I am hiring more of them, I always look for a nice flow in their writing style. One word of advice when looking for quality articles is to stay out of India. :)

13 posts with most of them stating that you run a team of content writers. Nice way of advertising but, in case you missed it out, this forum also features the `signature' option. Thanks also for your advice.

Client A: Waited for 2 weeks for a grammatically perfect sales copy to sell the latest electronic marvel.

Client B: Did not bother with grammar. He used simple English and minted millions while A twiddled his thumbs.

Above and beyond good grammar and spelling, I'd say the number 1 quality of a web article is knowing what you want you want the reader to do - meeting them wherethey are and leadning them to take the action you want.

Weezy: Why are you putting down Indians. I have an Indian lady writer that can put to shame your whole team collectively.

Take your $6.25 a 500 word article, for "quality", and put a 0 behind it, as in $62.50.

She has done it, despite being Indian. I saw the client's work. It met all 5 features.

I plan on finding more work for writers. The minimum I can see them get is $25.00, plus I want them to create clients on their own. $50.00, $62.50, and then higher as they improve.

Pleasant dreams, but watch out for the pink elephants.

I don't mean to put down Indians, I am just speaking from what I've seen. Like I've said before, I've seen about 50 Indian writers and none of them were worth working with. Looks like you found a diamond in the rough.
