What ELSE would you do?

My current projectwebgamefavorites.com is focussed around free online browsergames, most often textbased, or with simple graphics.

On this site, owners of webgames can login and register their game, with a description, a link, and some more info. Their game is then listed in the directory of games.

Each game can be rated 1-10 by users, and you can vote for the game. The game that wins, becomes the game of the month, and receives some extra attention on the front page.

Untill now, my focus has been fully on creating content, and getting games in. For this, I have been mailing individual game owners, which is a hell of a lot of work, and the return on it isn't even that high (which surprises me, as the worst case scenario for them still provides them with a nice link).

With no budget for paid campaigns, what else would you do in order to attract more game-owners?

there are several gaming sites scripts available preloaded with games - maybe get some games from those?

It really takes more effort if you do it by yourself.Sometimes you have to invest more time and hardwork to get them sign up and make your business successful.

Here are some ideas of the top of my head:
-Start posting on related message boards (Such as forums which are devoted to old games, and games in general - I suggest just making yourself known first before advertising a bit)
-Google search some terms relating to old games and look for ideas on other sites

People wont buy things they arent interested in, so you have to get into communties that are interested in it, or try your best to show that your product will fulfill a need they have.

I find people who want to play games, just want to play games. And make money doing it if they can. 99% of your visitors won't have much interest in voting, or adding games.

Instead of emailing game makers/owners you should try to find games you can add on your own to get things started and make your site look active.

Go to Survey Monkey dot com and start a survey.
Get on gaming forums and run a poll on what
people would love to see on your site.

What kind of games people love most and what kind
games they would like to play on your site.

Introduce referral system where the referrer gets a free
    gift of some kind.

This will get things going for ya.

I'm not a gamer, but I like what someone said about going to the gaming forums. Also, you can write articles about tips or issues with general gaming and provide a link that goes back to your website.

Once you start getting traffic, you may want to consider joining Google Adsense to monetize your site.
