Hey all, I am lost on what else to do to promote my new digg like site Bit FU. I did a press release, I submitted articles, I am getting backlinks. Can anyone give me something new that will bring people in and submit their content? I am lost as to what to do next. Thanks in advance.
Hi - Have you considered 'Bum Marketing'? It's cheap (read ZERO cost!) and can be VERY effective if done correctly. Just an idea. Hope it helps. Lux
can you explain that bum advertising? because that zerocost advertising looks interesting if you don't have to funds to pay heavy advertising.
Not something I'd waste my money on. Any one can write a guide whether its successful or not. Wouldn't use this unless I had actual evidence of the use of the 30 method. Anyone can open a site marketing a product like that, doesn't mean it has to work. How long has your site been open, one thing it takes is TIME. If there is not the audience for your site, its not going to occur over night.
I've been getting a lot of hits from Yahoo Answers. Whenever someone asks a question concerning anything your site is about (or that's on your site), then give them a good answer and use your site as the "reference link". You don't want to outright spam though, so make sure you give them a good answer along with your link.
I use yahoo answers all the time, I dont over do spam because I answer alot of things, like paranormal, who sings what songs, Sports, all sorts of different things... but your right, yahoo answers works great
If you need to get traffic to your site then visit this articel HERE on how to get traffic to your blog Hope it helps!
Have you considered using the social powerlinking course by jack humprhey - i have heard good things about it. I think it is $29 a month.
Hi spectrum65 If you haven't done so already take a look at the link in my sig. It'll give you a rough overview plus there's also a free report there that goes into some more detail. Can be a very profitable endeavor but you do have to put in the work. Hope that helps. Lux
Press releases rarely work. A Webmaster should do it, but he shouldn't hold his breath, either. You say you submitted articles. Where? How many? Do you have examples to be critiqued? You have some interesting stuff there. You can submit them to funny sites and weird news, like davesdaily.com, and also to networks. Do a search for such sites. They are all right there in front of you to contact with a proposal. Many, MANY Webmasters are always looking for some cool stuff to give to their visitors, so for payment they will let you post your url. Use compete.com to check, roughly, how many monthly hits they are getting to see if they are even worth contacting. You don't want to waste your time with dead sites. Even if they have a couple of thousand a month, a hundred or so a day, it is not worth it. It is not accurate, of course, but it gives you a good idea. This shit called "bum marketing is just article marketing, like you are already doing. Some guy slapped that term on it to perk curiosity in the hopes of selling his e-book. All due respect to the other poster, only amateurs use that term. Advertise and submit your best work. It's how the now big sites did it. But it boils down to on HOW you advertise. Also, put in short "send to a friend" forms underneath some of your best pieces. Hit them at the heat of the moment.
I really admire your tenacity and diligence in getting yourself promoted. I am running a blog for my wife (makingadollaroutof15cents.info) and sometimes the information that I come across can be overwhelming. I would like some insight since you have alread travelled the road.
Making A Dollar Out Of 15 Cents. lol Nice. Love the "many crumbs make the cake"! Heh ... Aint that the truth, brother! Your url alone is a great advertising headline, especially these days. Shit, last night I spent $85 to fill my damn tank! But you should change it to a different look. The orange with the blue background makes it kind of hard to read, and the subheadline under it should be much bigger, I missed it the first time, and perhaps a different color. That section just isn't that appealing to the eye. Ask others what they think. You know what is a really nice font...it's Haettenschweiler. The one you have is a bit boring, no personality. The formating on the rest of the page could be better, especially around the picture of that woman. Don't ya think the text should be bigger too? Perhaps Georgia 12 font. Make it easier to read, and it is a nice, stylish font. The more they like the font, the more they will read. They more they will read, the better your odds in getting repeat readers. Why is there red text there??? You have WAY too much blue there. Too much of a good thing is, well, too much. You should consider breaking it up with shades of light gray, and taking the blue out of the areas they are going to be reading your daily submissions. Instead of spending the next 3 days here giving you one long post on advertising, here's a draft of a document I put together for an upcoming e-book. It comes from common sense, experimenting, and especially interviewing webmasters. I hope you can get something out of it. http://www.thelist.fm/marketing-advertising.shtml
One thing you could do is get some reviews from top bloggers. Also try to get them place your bookmarklet on their sites. Since lot of their readers like to follow them, I am sure it will get your site known to many.
Great Advice... Might be hard to find top bloggers to mention a new kid on the block though without having to spend $$$ on it
