    One thing's for certain; it isn't just the number of competing pages. Actually, it isn't that at all. The key is to check for the STRENGTH of the actual competing pages by analyzing their backlinks carefully. You do that through the "linkdomain:" command in Yahoo, or even better, Yahoo Site Explorer.
