    hi,

I'm a student in computer informations systems technology and we are starting to create websites next week. I am curious what is the all round best software so that I don't find myself having to upgrade or download tons of different software.

    Don't spam forums.
Unless you want your site to be put on The List.

What languages are you looking to learn. I would say that best way to learn how to develop is to analyze other developers code and see how it works. Web Development like design isnt something you can fully learn, you have to have the nack for putting different equations together.

Once you have the base down start hand coding (notepad++) using dreamweaver as a beginner can be a bad thing, dream weaver is so good that its bad, What i mean by this is that dreamweaver helps so much it can pretty much do the work for you, but only so far, so as a beginner you would become dependent on its assisience and would be worse off in the future..

    i hope this helps.

    good luck mate

The best place to start would be to teach yourself html. You should start this using notepad ( textpad etc ) and at first you should stay away from applications like Dreamweaver and so on. I find starting from html a good start becuase not only is it very easy to learn but it also helps you grasp a better understanding on how the Internet ( server/client ) works.

When you know HTML, then start focusing your effort on xhtml/css. After you have learnt the basics, this will give you a good understanding of good web design practices which will you find paramount in future.

After mastering xhtml/css I would recommend getting into something thats more focused on logic as oppose to presentation. In my opion you should to with.net using C#. Though this is completly based on where you want to be in terms of the industry you wish to work in. Depending on the industry, JAVA etc might be your best bet.

After you have learnt all the above, you should then be able to decide which area of web developement you would like to focus on, The Front end or the Back end side of things.

If at this stage you realise that you prefer the front end, then you should focus your effort in tecnologies like Flash/ Silver light and so on.

If on the other hand you decide that you prefer the backend side of things, then you should start focusing on learning additional languages ( c# AND Java is what I would alway go for )

Hope this helps mate...and good luck :)
