I plan on opening a lingerie store and iv used magento before but its too slow..

OScommerce - you need to know php to customize it, which I don't know.

i need something fast for about 500 products 10K visitors.

You can go with AJ Shopping cart which provides more user friendly features to start your own shop, or you can just try fully free open source Zeucart. Both are good to start online shop.

My vote is for Zencart as well. But it is a branch of OScommerce. You don't need to know PHP unless you're heavily modding it. If you're comfortable with html and css, you'll be fine with Zencart (unless you're okay with the default installation - which is not too appealing).

Mangeto is good, but it is somewhat slow I use to have them, there software seems to be a bit buggy. I've recently switched up to Interspire. I'm on there 2 week trial and its been pretty fast for me so far, but its too early to tell if I will keep them or not. They offer both stand alone cart which will cost some money they have 3 options ranging from $299-$1800 the other option is there hosted cart(which has all features available)that's on there own servers, they have 5 different monthly plans I believe.. check them out. Another cart I like is opencart, seems pretty easy to use but they are still fairly new, I'm not sure how fast or slow they are I will try them next..

I would definitely recommend Prestashop before Magento. I have personally used both and I found Prestashop to be MUCH more functional, user friendly, and flexible.

You can try out the two shopping carts here:

    Prestashop: www.prestashop.com/en/showcase_demo/
    Magento: www.magentocommerce.com/demo

I'd recommend Prestashop and Magento. Magento is going to be one of the most robust and popular open source shopping cart application available. I know it is bit slow however it can work better on a fast server meant specially for Magento.

I would say go with Volusion. They have a very easy to use cart with no transaction fees. I have used all the fore-mentioned carts and I think Volusion is the best. Good Luck

    My favorite is www.QuickCart.com.

It's easy to use (no programming required!), has a bunch of tools: WYSIWYG page builders, Unlimited Categories / Sub-Categories, Dynamic Product Options, Dynamic FAQ builders, Designer tools, SSL Built-In, and integrates with pre-existing websites, as well as Authorize.net, PayPal, Google and LinkPoint easily.

If you're interested, check out their free trial. It'll let you create your store and, if you like what you see, upgrade it to the full version without any extra hassle.

There's no transaction or startup fees either.

    Try it out

Recent version of magento is fast enough as they have done huge changes in 1.4 version in order to make it faster than before, try to get a good hosting company and optimize magento. should work well.

Presta Shop is not bad, but I would choose opencart before presta. Zencart has some good features, I don't know how it looks now, but a year ago the backend was uggly looking.
