There is a big advantage in ranking for your domain name; if your domain name is a keyword/s this rule still applies. A decade of SEO experience shows this in my everyday work. :D

Wth, I asked for you to explain, doesn't that mean that I'm listening? By the sound of your reply, you can't back up your statement.

So why did you buy the domain http://www.monfis.us/ for your web host? It has no keywords.

But that's what I was speaking about before. I said that keywords in the domain don't magically make you rank well, that's why you choose brandable domains. Neither a brandable or keyworded domain will have an immediate SERP advantage but brandable is better over the long term.

.com doesn't have any SEO benefit over any other TLD's

the benefit is what people type in. There's more chance of typing in "imgay.com" than "imgay.biz" or "imgay.org"

    anyway back on topic
SEO wise Team-Fortress-2-Hacks.com would be best, because the search engines can establish what the words are easily, the SEO bots aren't that smart

First, that's only one of my domains - I choosed to brand.

Second, there are losts of web site owners, not running a company where branding makes sense.

Third, just try a few searches with domain names (keyword and non keyword) and you'll see that you are wrong.

There is no point to continue with this kind of discussion, as you might have heard, SEO is not limited to domain name choice, but includes several hundreds of factors that interact!

Hint for all those who don't understand this discussion, it's very easy to see what kind of advantage a keyword rich domain name means:

Search on Google for the following terms:

    gospel rhys
    bloggers choice awards
    killer startups
    startup starters
    werbe blogger

This is just a quick random selection, it works with almost any search term you use. Have a look at the # 1 rankings!

I think with this proof the discussion is really closed.

Just an additional information from a SEO veteran. If you choose to use more than 3 keywords or more than 2 dashes in your URL, you'll start to trigger filters on Google, so it is not advisable to pass this limits.

Tip for "Team-Fortress-2-Hacks" - use "teamfortress2hacks", it's at the limits of filter triggering (3 words, 1 number) I consider as ok. Don't fear that Googlebot won't be able to distinguish the words and number without dashes, it CAN and WILL. Another case would be something like "luxuryachtvacation" instead of "luxuryyachtvacation" the first term would not be recognized as a 3 word but as a 2 word URL if you search for "luxury yacht vacation" - the price for such error (or cosmetic desire), "only" a # 2 rank for that search without further particular optimization efforts, but the site is not mainly optimized for "luxury yacht vacation"!

Another hint, use if applicable the plural versions of your keywords in URL, Google will accept it for the plural AND singular term!

But when websites are linking back to a website, they often use the anchor text of the website name itself - "Killer Startups" for www.killerstartups.com etc

But how many backlinks with the anchor text "Killer Startups" do you think money.cnn.com/magazines/fsb/bizplans/2007/ has? They are rank 2 only behind www.killerstartups.com (who have the anchor text advantage).

We all know that anchor text plays an important role in SEO so why don't you see that having keywords in the domain does not directly and immediatly affect your SERPs, it only affects them through people's natural anchor text choice.

    Learn to research!

    killerstartups # 1 - backlinks = 3.310

    cnn # 2 - backlinks = 24.400

Can you see the difference??? How do you explain this??? Still not convinced???

I said anchor text of the backlinks..................even though CNN has 24,000 backlinks, KillerStartups.com probably has more backlinks with the anchor text 'Killer Startups' than CNN. General backlinks don't matter as much at targeted backlinks.
