    Until recently .com was obviously my favorite, until I discovered .CN

    To my greatest surprise, when I registered 2 identical domain names into .com and .cn, my .cn website got immediate Alexa ranking and acquired faster Google indexed pages than my .com

    I am comming to the realisation (I might be wrong but ) its easier to market sites designed or a certain country
    I dont know what the situation is in the US (were .com in the norm and .us isnt that big) but if you search certain keywords most of the results come from websites from that country
    eg
    DvD search for in Google.ie (ireland) shows 4 results out of 10 for irish stores while another 3 for the the irish sites of major companies like ebay
    So far that reason I am looking at countryTLDs
